Why Northerners Should Go To School In The South

For those of us who chose to use college as a 4-year vacation. We did it right. And this is why.

We are distanced from our high-school life.

As much as we might have complained, high school wasn't half bad. However, our college years are a brand new chapter of our life. Going to school far away, we were able to completely start over. We've made new friends, and had the opportunity to recreate ourselves as much as we wanted to.

The football games are like nothing we've ever experienced.

While we still support our respective NFL teams back home, coming down south made us realize what we've been missing out on at sporting events. Who wants to bundle up in subzero weather at tailgates when you can wear shorts and get your tan on? And those of you who have teams in the SEC can always prepare for an exciting season.

We have warm weather when we want it.

Which is always.

We can go home for snow whenever we want it.

Which is during Christmas and during Christmas only.

Your friends and family always want to come visit you.

It might be a costly plane ticket, but your loved ones will take any chance to take a mini-vacation. The weather is a good enough selling point to get people to come down to your school. The only drawback is trying to get them to spend time with you instead of with the beach.

Packing is a cinch.

While most of our friends back are attempting to cram winter coats and sweaters into suitcases, we are throwing bikinis into duffel bags. Going to school in a warm place means less clothing and therefore, less storage space. It's also much easier to pack before returning for breaks because all of our winter clothes are still in our closets back home.

We are exposed to a new culture.

Of course we love our hometowns, but going to school so far away has given us an idea of how people live elsewhere. We learn just as much about the world exploring campus as we do inside the classroom. And let's be honest - the food is the thing we will probably miss the most once we graduate.

Clearance sales back home.

This is the singular best thing about going to school in the South. Right before we leave for school, all of the summer clothes are going on clearance. No one wants to buy a crop top when it's almost September. Lucky for us, summer clothes are also fall clothes and winter clothes. Bargain shopping at its finest.

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.

Your Friend Group, As Told By Disney Princesses

The dynamics of any friend group are usually determined by the personalities which make it up. Chances are, while personalities may overlap, each person in your friend group holds his or her own place. It is the differences which bring the groups together and keep them functioning. No matter how functionally dysfunctional your friend group may be, if you're anything like me, you feel absolutely blessed to have found such a wonderful group of humans to call "your people." Here is what your friend group might look like if they were Disney princesses (and that wasn't just a thing you all pretended in your heads):
