20 Signs You Grew Up In Waco, Texas

Waco is more than the home of Magnolia and Branch Davidians.

Aaaah, good ol' Waco, the "Heart of Texas." The 254. The (now-growing) town filled with college sports, churches, and schools. The town that was once infamous for David Koresh is now famous for the HGTV hit show "Fixer Upper." However, if you're an '80s-'90s Waco baby, you've loved Waco way before Joanne and what's-his-face started fixing houses.

1. You get asked if you're a Branch Davidian.

The tendency of this is (thankfully) decreasing as time goes on. Almost any time I traveled out of state, I would get asked this at least once.

2. Getting asked "Why didn't you go to Baylor?"

And replying, "Do you know how expensive it is?"

3. Attending Friday night football was mandatory.

Football in the heart of Texas is a way of life.

4. You love Bush's Chicken

I have fond memories of getting a Bush's Chicken family meal every Sunday throughout my childhood. Odds are, you probably have similar memories.

5. Baylor sports games were the most popular pastime.

Especially Lady Bear basketball games and football games. Yes, Baylor had football before RGIII. Shocking, I know.

6. You listened to Quistar.

If you grew up in Waco, especially through the late 2000's, Quistar was (and still is) the greatest rapper.

7. You remember the heartbreak of the West fertilizer explosion like it was yesterday.

All of our hearts sunk and we all cried when our neighbors in West suffered in 2013. Our Texan friendship grabbed national headlines as towns all over central Texas helped our neighbors in West.

8. The HOT Fair was the best time of the year.

Yaaasss to overpriced food and terrifying fair rides! We also can't forget the rodeo.

9. George's was the restaurant to go to with your friends and family.

Mmmm Baylor Beggars (George's rolls with ranch, to all you non-Wacoans). Decent prices and several of your friends worked there.

10. You drove through Rainbow Road for a thrill.

Rainbow Road is filled with scary legends, ranging from evils witches to the KKK. If you were feeling risky, then you would load up your car with friends and drive through the road with your lights off (so safe).

11. Tortilla tossing was a sport.

We all remember going to the "Waco bridge" and throwing a tortilla with all of our strength, desperately hoping it would land on one of the cement blocks in the Brazos River.

12. Common Grounds was the perfect place for a first date.

Delicious coffee, good music, and lots of Baylor students. Aaaah, the romance.

13. Constantly checking the Waco Trib website after prom to find your pictures.

Once the prom pictures were uploaded, everyone made a mad dash to the Waco Trib website to find pictures of us with our hot dates and friends. Then you would post them on Facebook and they looked like the photo above. Yay, copyright.

14. Going to shows at Art Ambush on the weekend.

Whether it was metal or indie, you were always guaranteed a great time for almost no cost at Art Ambush (RIP). Art Ambush was the place for music, art, piercings and tattoos.

15. Your days off were spent at the Dr Pepper museum.

Never forget making your own Dr. Pepper.

16. Schmaltz's was the sandwich place.

Enough said.

17. You knew that nothing beat a Waco party.

Wacoans knew (and still know) how to party. We all remember either being or wishing we were at the legendary Tyler Rodriquez party pictured above.

18. You're asked if you were at Twin Peaks when the "motorcycle gangs went loose."

19. Racing on The Valley

The ultimate Saturday night activity. You owe your sharp eye for cops to these nights.

20. You called Lake Waco "the beach."

Mmmm, murky water and an abundance of bugs. You would pay a few bucks for a great afternoon in the sand and lake water.

Ultimately, nothing beats the unity that Wacoans have.

1. You don't have to feel guilty about flirting with customers for tips (or just for shits and giggles).

2. You can be obnoxiously flirtatious with anyone you want. You are free to be that girl that flirts with everybody and makes 'em all smile (it's especially fun when the guy is as cute as Collin Jost). No shame.

3. Making random men nervous with your superior beauty and intense eye contact just for the hell of it is really amusing and empowering.

4. No one gives two poops if ya legs are hairy (your man shouldn't either but *Kermit the Frog meme* That's none of my business)

5. The toilet seat will remain down.

6. There's more money to spend on yourself.

7. There's always this secret butterfly in your tummy that marvels at the possibility that when you go out this weekend you're gonna meet someone super handsome/wonderful/prince-like and have this moment of dazzling dalliance.

8. Nothing is that serious...you can take it all with a grain of salt...you don't owe anybody anything.

9. You can dance with anyone and everyone...or no one (Hello frat boi w/ glasses, I see you).

10. You don't have to fluff anyone's ego but your own.

11. Free drinks and dinners from single guys (It's not taking advantage if they're offering; a girl's gotta eat).

12. You have more time to learn how to love and improve yourself rather than constantly pouring your energy into another person.

13. You don't have to sacrifice your cheesy Jen Aniston rom-coms and Gilmore Girls for his Fast and Furious/other dumb action movie featuring blonde that is only in the movie to supply a relationship to the male lead and to make him look more masculine/empowered in juxtaposition (In other words, you don't have to deal with a guy being a crabby Patty while you watch your cute movies).

14. You can daydream about what your future husband may be doing right now (and not get stressed/guilty out because you're not picturing your current boyfriend that's crazy about you as your future husband).

15. There is more time to be spent with your girlfriends.

Girls Night In
Milk + Blush

We've all been there - you've been saying since Tuesday after French that this weekend is the weekend. You're finally going to break out those new heels and actually put on eyeliner on and make this Friday night be one for the memory books! That is, of course, until Girls Night Out turned into...Girls Night In.

Whether you believe astrology is a legitimate "science" or not, we have all found ourselves looking at our horoscopes from time to time. The 12 astrological signs all fall under one of four elements: air, water, earth, or fire. Air signs are rational, social, and love to communicate with others. Water signs are are emotional, intuitive, and mysterious. Fire signs tend to be passionate, creative, and adventurous. Earth signs are conservative, realistic, and loyal.

Each sign is determined by the relative positions of celestial bodies to ourselves at our moment of birth, which is said to influence our personalities. Find your zodiac GIF below, based on the traits and characteristics provided by each sign.

If you haven't read the first part of this, I would highly suggest to, specifically because the Public Service Announcement placed in the beginning of that article still applies. If you don't feel like reading part one, I will try to cover it quickly. Basically, long story short, I am a pretty boring person and lead a pretty ordinary life. Due to this, please do not expect for the things I consider ridiculous to be what others may deem it. I promise that each of these I have done with a complete sane, mildly bored, brain. With all of this being said, please enjoy the semi-absurd things I have been lead to do in the second semester of my freshman year at college.
