I remember the day I was finally able to play "Pokémon Red" on my godmother’s Gameboy Advance (Can’t remember why she had one). For those who don’t remember, those actually used AA batteries , batteries that only lasted a few hours so by the time I made it to Vermillion City to take on Lt. Surge, the device was dead and I was disappointed. Disappointed but not deterred. No matter how many times I needed to restart, the game never lost its magic.
20 years later, Pokémon is a magical as ever. With a beautiful new region and an array of cute new monsters, "Pokémon Sun" delivers on the months-long hype.
Tough, I do have a few complaints.
NO NEW MEGAS!!!!! Although this has been common knowledge before the game was actually, released I’m still pretty salty about it. Mega Evolutions may have made certain Pokémon overpowered and incorporated others into the Meta, butit remains an all-around dope concept and it’s still somewhat disappointing that it wasn’t built upon more with Sun and Moon.
LOCKED DOORS? Pokémon has long had an open door policy throughout its world. There was a time where you could walk into anyone’s house, unannounced and get free stuff or listen to the absolutely useless dialogue. Some may have noticed that many of the doors in the Alola region are actually locked. To me, this just makes the region seem smaller.
Chalk it up to personal preference but those are the only real complaints I have.
I do think Sun and Moon introduce some refreshing features.
The Typing for the starter Pokémon are relatively original, I was scared that we were going to end up with another Fire /Fighting type but we were spared.
The lack of HMs is also a godsend and gives players the ability to make optimized move sets for their Pokémon.
Did I mention the diverse array of Pokémon in Alola? There seems to be a little bit of everything in the region which makes discover creatures that much more interesting
Overall, "Pokémon Sun" is groundbreaking and much like its predecessor, will probably change the way we play Pokémon.
