Halloween doesn't need to be solely about scary activities. It can include fun and toned-down scary things, too! Below is a list of multiple activities for people who prefer to not scream their head off in order to get into the Halloween spirit.
1. Fall festivals
For a start, fall festivals are great and usually include Halloween-themed activities that are appropriate for all ages. They’re a great way to experience a little Halloween but in a non-scary way. They're also during the day so there’s a guarantee that there will be no ghosts or witches out. Hayrides and corn mazes will get you into the mood for Halloween, and there are local fall festivals in every town.
2. Other Halloween treats
With fall comes a wide range of food. And yes, I am talking about way more than pumpkin spice everything. If you aren’t a fan of pumpkin spice flavors, there’s still a wide range of food in season during fall, including squash, apples, figs, pears, sweet potatoes, cranberries, pomegranates and more! Best of all, there is an infinite amount of Halloween treats and recipes. From bat cookies to vampire cupcakes, spooky desserts can never freak you out because you’re putting them in the oven and eating them, so go make the goriest zombie monster cookie out there!
3. Laid-back Halloween specials
People associate Halloween with must-see scary movies like "Paranormal Activity" or exorcist films that will turn you as pale as a ghost, and forget that classics can be just as fun -- plus you can actually fall asleep afterwards. Movies such as "The Nightmare Before Christmas" and "Ghostbusters"are not only classic Halloween movies, but also appropriate for younger age groups and are minimally scary. The "Scary Movie" series is a great compilation and parody of other classic scary movies. Other shows have great Halloween specials, such as "Family Guy," "The Simpsons," "South Park" and more popular shows!
4. Pumpkin carving
Pumpkin carving is a must-do for Halloween lovers. Pumpkin carving is the most creative thing you can do on Halloween besides coming up with a clever costume. Pumpkins can be carved to appear scary, but you know they're just a silly pumpkin. However, pumpkins can also be funny, cool, strange or even be a replica of a character.
5. Halloween decorating
Decorating for Halloween is another must-do. Why not live and breathe Halloween for a month before it comes? After all, you are free to decorate however scary or non-scary you want in your own house. There are actually some very silly Halloween decorations, such as a skeleton sitting on a toilet.
6. Pumpkin patches
Another outdoor activity is to go to a pumpkin patch, either just to walk around to take a picture to put on Instagram or to get one and carve it later! You can be surrounded by one of the most iconic Halloween entities and without any fright involved.
7. Costume parties
Anyone and everyone should attend costume parties. They are usually much less scary than walking around at night. In fact, they are just meant to be fun.
