Non-Political Topics For The Holiday Dinner Table
Funny Or Die

Coming from a family with very diverse political views, holiday seasons, especially during election years, can become a very tricky ordeal. We all want to experience the joy and magic of the winter season without wanting to kill or educate one another with our varying political views. With Thanksgiving all finished up, we have successfully completed a trial run for the upcoming holiday season. And my family became very good at avoiding politics (for the first time ever) at the dinner table due to some interesting and very random conversation transitions. So, I suggest finding some safe and somewhat amusing topics similar to the following to keep your family happy and joyous during the holiday season.

1. The most effective way to wash a dead bug off of your car's windshield. (Dawn Soap or dryer sheets, apparently.)

2. The Gilmore Girls long awaited reunion (#teamLogan? #teamJess? #definitelynotteamDean?)

3. Theoretical conversations about the meaning of life.

4. If you had to be a Disney character who would it be?

5. Who has got a new boy/girl friend??? (When in doubt about the conversation climate, you can use them as conversational bait--but, I'd try to be classy and apologize in advanced).

6. What you love about everyone sitting around you (imagine all the brownie points you would get).

7. Why you should not (or should-you are totally partial to your opinion) read the newest "Harry Potter" book (play). ***But be warned, as an avid Harry Potter fan there is no going back once you read it; you cannot un-see what you have tragically decided to read.

8. New TV shows and movies everyone has been keeping up with. I came out with a whole new list of suggestions of what to watch and avoid, and cannot wait to binge watch them over winter break.

9. Crazy college or just general roommates or housemates who do entertaining things and make fascinating life choices.

10. How your dogs are cuter than everyone else's.

11. New Years Resolutions-even though you probably won't achieve everything you plan to do; but props to you if you do.

12. The Weather-it's a classic.

13. Pass around your Pinterest ideas for cute crafts and gift ideas.

14. How to take the perfect selfie. And then you can even start a selfie contest. Or you can even spur into conversations about "millennials, these days."

15. The best brunch places around whose ever house you are at. Because, you can never go wrong with brunch foods.

16. Coffee versus Tea?

17. The Dark Knight Series...because who doesn't love these movies?

18. International current events (not politically related, obviously).

19. Old holiday memories from previous years. (This one can go on for a while, especially if you have older family members that love to talk about things he/she did "when I was your age...").

20. The newest fashion trends.

21. Cute cat/puppy videos are always a good cop out.

22. You can gush about the new people you have met this year.

23. Funny memes that have come out recently. Currently loving all of these Evil Kermit ones.

24. How delicious the food you have been eating is. Speaking of, what is everyone's favorite dishes? Has anyone watched any fun tasty videos of inspiring recipes to try?

25. How to do distracting magic tricks.

26. Finstagrams--are they really fake? Thoughts.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
