Cyclebar Is The Newest Spin Class That You Need To Try

Earlier in the summer, my sister Noelle and I went to check out the new cycling studio Cyclebar that just opened in Uptown New Orleans (3823 Magazine St). When I've visited NYC and Chicago, I've tried and completely fallen in love with SoulCycle and Flywheel. A total newbie to spin, I loved how both studios lowered the lights and blasted the high-energy club music. The instructors were motivational, and it was an all-encompassing, multisensorial workout experience that totally motivated me. Plus, when I wore my heart rate monitor, I saw that I'd burn between 400-500 calories - a win-win all around! When I would return to Nola, I'd be so disappointed that neither one of these companies had studios in New Orleans. So, I was thrilled to return this summer and learn about the opening of Cyclebar. They offered a week's worth of free classes, and I was psyched to discover that the studio had a similar concept to the other major studios I tried -- low lights, loud music, and high energy instructors. Cyclebar also embraces the same competitive atmosphere. Periodically, every user's stats flash up on the big TV monitors, so you can see how you compare to everyone else in the class. The one innovation I happily experienced in Cyclebar was the addition of music videos up on the screens.

The studio was very welcoming and comfortable too. Shoes are included in the price of the class, and the studio has filtered water if you bring your own water bottle. During the intro week, the studio also gave out free water bottles. They also offer apples and bananas, and they have lockers for your belongings.

When people ask me how I like spin compared to yoga or other workouts, I also say that it's one of the best options out there for a total cardio burn. Plus, I like that it's a workout that really focuses on building leg strength, something that can often get left to the wayside if you don't lift or you're a runner. Although it's predominantly leg focused, there is a weighted bar on your bike that you use for a short arm-focused strength segment.

If you love loud music, burning major calories, or are going through SoulCycle or Flywheel withdrawal in NOLA, then I definitely recommend hitting up Cyclebar!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

There have been many lessons learned.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
