The Shenandoah Valley holds a unique city containing a beautiful campus, which leads to the many thrilling, memorable events that grasp the attention of the public regularly, and remain in the hearts of the individuals who partake.
The fact that a remarkable city is home to such a beautiful and profitable campus, both in dedication and memory to our fourth U.S. president, should prevent any noise ordinance agains its students. The social gatherings that would be prohibited with the passing of this law do in fact highlight the theme of the school’s atmosphere. The city holds a vibrant community, which can lead to a heart pumping adventure as said in one of the memos of its background. If the law of noise ordinance pass, then the true nature of the city may lose its interest of its natural attraction and history of parties especially to the student body of James Madison University. The fact that the most favorable campus on public grounds has a phenomenal history with parties, could now be facing future party protest with the city council all in efforts to ensure that they keep their right to party. The spirit of the royal dukes should never be deprived of its residential volume, generated in the community especially during the hype of game days. The purple and gold pride of the campus is represented as a tradition including the sustaining excitement of events such as JMU block parties, where students can forever leave their mark on others by imprinting the good times as memories.
President James Madison, once said that “The loss of liberty at home is to be charged the provisions against danger, real or imagined abroad.” In addition to this quote, many students could lose their liberty to party as the danger of noise ordinance can create a feud as an outbreak to the entire city. Residents shouldn’t worry about the sound of disturbance, for no matter where they go in the city of Harrisonburg or anywhere else, it is out of their control. When some of them were younger, they probably had the same experience of their life time on JMU or another campus. Residents should treat this a reminder of those memorable times. Everyone should cherish their liberty once in a while in some way, even if it means creating a setting with a crowd of people involved in a social gathering.
The home of the Dukes should never surrender the rights of the students to party on behalf of the City Council of Harrisonburg due to this issue because school’s atmosphere as well as pride may not be the same ever again.
