No work, No problem

Our generation has no respect

Teenagers in our generation don't know how to work and it's becoming a serious problem. The amount of eighteen year olds who have never had a job is unbelievably high and it's only hurting themselves in the long run. So many kids rely on their parents for everything, it's sad really. Don't they realize they're not helping them in any way?

I'm not going to lie, I'm spoiled, but I've also had a job since I was 14. I know people who are 18 years old who still have never worked a day in their lives and it amazes me. The one pattern I've realized about these kids is that none of them are going anywhere. The majority of them didn't graduate and those who did didn't pursue an education or even a work field after high school. It's a pattern, no job equals no future.

Having a job teaches kids the value of money and responsibility. When I was making my own money I never wanted to spend it, but when I was relying on my parents I didn't care how much my shopping bill was. I learned how to budget and what was prioritized. I see kids at age 18 still asking for their parents for money to go out to eat.

The parents are mostly at fault. If you raise your child with no knowledge of money or respect then they're going to be 30 years old and still in your basement playing video games. If someone grows up never needing to work then nothing will motivate them to go out and pursue anything in life. They'll always have mommy and daddy to rely on.

Another pattern in jobless teens is disrespect. Not all spoiled kids are rude but a good amount usually are. When you never have anything to work for then you don't appreciate other peoples hard work. If you've never worked a day in your life then your immature and immature kids have no respect for people or things around them.

It's sad that the world we live in today isn't teaching the younger generations that hard work pays off. If you're 18 years old, go out and get a job It will honestly help you so much in the future. You make your own money, you gain responsibility and respect, and you mature. Go and get a job!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
