No Tomorrow

It is time to stop making excuses; live today.

It can be so easy to fall into the mindset of tomorrow, with excuses like, "there is always tomorrow," "I will do it when i am older and have more money," "things are crazy right now, i will do it when things calm down."

The problem is, how often do we run out of time because we keep waiting for tomorrow?

The fact of the matter is that there will never be the perfect time. Humans have a certain talent for making up excuses. If we really tried we could come up with an excuse, probably multiple excuses for anything. Instead, we need to change our mindsets to take opportunity by the horns and make it the perfect time to pursue our dreams. So often people leave their bucket lists until they know that they are running out of time. Their health may be compromised and it is much harder to complete what we spent our whole lives saying we would do.

So why do we not go abroad when we are young? Rarely, will we reach a life stage where we have money, time and energy. So take the chances, gain the experiences and live the adventurous life that you want to. Be brave enough to step our of your comfort zone to accomplish the adventures that you want.

Especially college students, there are so many opportunities to go abroad to travel and experience the world. Now is the time to do it, before working full time, paying numerous monthly bills trying to get by. Use the study abroad opportunities and gain experiences that will last a lifetime. Yes, you can always travel but just because you are 19 or in your early 20's do not fall into the mindset that you are too young and can always travel later.

This mindset goes for anything. Something as simple as i can check this off of my to-do list today. To something as big as wanting to go back packing across Europe, to visit the Grand Canyon or to go sky diving. So often people go through their lives waiting for the perfect moment to live these great adventures. And far too often they kept putting it off and never end up getting around to it.

Planning can be very good. Helping people get organized. But do not plan your life to the point that you never actually get around to what you have spent all of your time planning. Sometimes it truly is best to just...

GO.

Sometimes you need to act like there is no tomorrow. Some days you need to live like it was your last. Eventually you will need to say, "this is the day." To throw yourself out of your comfort zone, you will thank yourself for it later.

Go out and live the adventure that you have been dreaming about.

Go.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
