Georgetown Cupcake. To many, this name might already ring a bell. But, for those who might not be as familiar with it, let's dive into a little bit of the history of this popular business.
Georgetown Cupcakes is located in Washington D.C. right by Georgetown University. It is run and owned by Sophie Kallinis LaMontagne and Katherine Kallinis Berman. These sisters gave up their careers for baking and opened their store in 2008. Since then, they have been featured on TLC's "DC Cupcakes" where they have gained a significant amount of popularity. To this day, many people travel to the heart of Georgetown for a chance to try these famous little desserts.
With growing popularity, these sisters were able to open up other stores inNew York City, Bethesda, Boston, Atlanta and Los Angeles. Georgetown Cupcake also ships its cupcakes nationwide with their online ordering system. You can even check out live, behind-the-scenes action of these stores with Cupcake Cam Live.
So, like many others, my friends and I also ventured to this shop to see what all of the hype was actually about.
When we first arrived at the shop, we could see that there was a huge line that stretched out of the store and down the street. If you do not like long lines, then this little cupcake shop might not be for you. However, although the line was long, it felt that it was becoming shorter in less time than we anticipated. We were chatting in line and the next thing we knew, we were already in the store and able to see the flavor menu and the cupcakes.
At Georgetown Cupcake, they have "Everyday Classics" flavors and then depending on the day of the week it is, the have special cupcakes for those days. They also have "Monthly Seasonals" which include holiday themed cupcakes. There are even different Vegan and Gluten-Free cupcake options. So no matter what you prefer, you will most likely be able to find a cupcake to eat.
The cupcakes are priced at $3.25 per cupcake and decrease a little in price if you buy several of them. I chose to buy a box of six cupcakes because I couldn't just pick one flavor to try.
Out of all of the cupcakes, I ended up choosing the following flavors: Chocolate2 (top left), Red Velvet (top middle), Chocolate Ganache (top right), Salted Caramel (bottom left), Peanut Butter Fudge (bottom middle), and Lava Fudge (bottom right).
Now, I may not be a cupcake expert, but I do have to say that these cupcakes were delicious! Their texture was perfect and the sweetness of the icing was just right. I understood why people waited in this long line for these tasty little cakes.
We definitely loved Georgetown Cupcake and will most likely be back again to taste more of the many flavors they have to offer. I was overall pleased with the experience, even though there was a long line. I would definitely recommend that everyone go and try one of these cupcakes to experience the deliciousness for themselves. Georgetown Cupcake is very sweet indeed.
