Ever heard the word 'extra' and wonder what it means? It should be your new favorite E word.

Urban dictionary defines Extra as, "Over the top, excessively, dramatic behavior, way too much. Doing the absolute most for no damn reason."

Why is there a negative connotation with the word, extra? When I think of the “E” word, I think of fuzzy slides, poppin' highlight and specific Starbucks orders.

Where is the shame in that?

Being “extra” is spicing up regular things to make them better.

For example, why wear a regular coat when you can wear a (faux) fur coat? I would much rather be called extra than be called boring. Life is much more fun when you are in the spotlight rather than hiding in the shadows.

Yes, there are different levels of extra. A beginning level of extra-ness would be simply cutting the edges off your bread. An extreme extra person has their outfits picked out days ahead of time, daily brunch and a new phone case for every month.

A “non” extra person may simply think of date night as dinner and a movie.

On the other hand, an extra person may think of a candle-lit, vegan, 100 percent organic, gluten-free, rooftop dinner and a drive-in movie with luxury salted caramel popcorn.

The second option sounds much more exciting.

Being extra means you always have to SLAY whatever task is at hand. Use your “extra” power to complete tasks at 150 percent energy and feel good while doing it.

Pretend you have a crown on your head at all times. (Even if your imaginary “crown” is a baseball hat.)

OWN IT!

Being extra is being creative, so find a positive spin on anything you deem boring.

If painting your ring finger nail with sparkly nail polish means being “extra” to you…do it.

If a "Gossip Girl" themed breakfast on Sunday morning while wearing matching pajamas with your best friends means being “extra” for you...do it.

No matter what it is, everyone has something that makes them feel a little extra. Embrace it today. Embrace it tomorrow. Don’t let anyone convince you otherwise.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
