No One's Life is As Perfect As Their Social Media Feed

Take time to disconnect.

Wander where the wifi or LTE doesn’t reach(as well at least). Everyone can all agree on how the current generations are so caught up in social media. We obsess over the number of followers we get, or how many likes our pictures have, and how ‘worthy’ it is to post about something. We fixate over other people's social media, comparing how much better other lives are because of their current social feeds. Don’t let it manipulate you into thinking that you are living your life “wrong.” Remember that social media only shows what we voluntarily post, so stop comparing your life to other peoples highlights.

Now I am not saying it’s wrong to take pictures and save the memories, but also take the time to just capture the moment yourself. Stop what you’re doing in that moment, and take it all in. It’s not bad to tweet about your amazing day, or maybe you not so great day either. Social media is amazing, we get to interact with people all across that world. And to be honest, if it wasn’t for social media I probably wouldn’t be writing this article.

Just remember to disconnect from time to time, look around and see what is going on. Focus your friends and family. Find a good book, or go on a great hike. Make your own adventures, make your life what you want it to be, you have that power! Stop comparing your life, and just got out and live it. When you do, and you look back your life will be more than you see now. Whatever your adventures may be, just go out and do it, and honestly even take pictures or post about it. Just when it comes down to it, don’t just go so you can later post about it, do the experience for yourself.

Life is crazy amazing, and you only get one shot to live it. Stop living it from behind your computer or your phone screen. Stop letting social media consume you. Stop allowing our follower to following ratios decided how great you are. Stop letting it take away your shine, because your photo doesn’t get as many likes as the next. No one's life is as perfect as their social media feeds shows, and not all that glitters is gold.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

too tired to care

We've all been there. From move-in day to the first finals week in college, your first term is an adventure from start to finish. In honor of college decisions coming out recently, I want to recap some of the most common experiences college freshmen experience.

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!

Dear High School Friend Group,

My sweet angels, where would I be without you guys. We all grew up together because we either met in middle school or high school and watched each other grow up and get "old." We got to go to prom together and then graduate together. Then watched each other as we continued our lives in college, joining sororities and meeting people who will impact our lives forever. It all has happened so fast.
