First thing is first, body shaming is body shaming, whether someone is skinny or fat, tall or short, thin or wide, brown, white, tan, or green; it is all the same. For years the world has put an image into our heads… That all women should look the same or look similar to the girls that are photoshopped onto the cover of every worldwide magazine. The world has told us that we need to “lose some weight” or “eat a few more burgers with every meal”.
For the longest time, girls my age were constantly being so hateful and so unfriendly towards someone they were to see in public or at an event; if they didn’t look like they could be a cover model for Vogue. We have this expectation for every woman that has been brain-washed into our heads. Women are expected to be fit, healthy, tan, have perfectly pushed up boobs, a nice behind, a skinny waste, etc. constantly trying to fit into this mold we know isn’t our reality.
Another thing that has been noticed is that many women are very harsh to themselves if they aren’t meeting up with the world’s standards of what’s defined as “beautiful”. They are in a battle with their own body, mind, and soul because they aren’t able to feel beautiful in their own skin. That is not, and never will be, okay.
I also need to address those of you who always have something negative to say towards the one's who seem to "have it all." Some women were born with nice legs, a flat tummy and other "perfect" features, so please by all means don't blame them for having such. Shaming women for having "good" features is JUST AS TERRIBLE as shaming women for being overweight or having features. Having someone throw negative vibes towards you does not feel good, so instead of spreading those negative vibes on and on, just stop them.
What we are forgetting to do is remembering that the Lord doesn’t make garbage. He created us in His own image, and the Lord himself is flawless. The Lord makes beautiful sculptures out of dust. He molds us into creations of blood, bone, and flesh, and covers them with beauty marks, freckles, moles, dimples, birth marks and so much more that makes us who we are as individuals. You and I have flaws but it's what makes us part of who we are.
That is something we should learn to love. We should learn to love our flaws. We should learn to love the inches of waist we were trying to lose, but failed. We should learn to love the skin that covers our entire body even if it has marks that don’t make us feel beautiful. We should learn to love every mark that makes us who we are, because no one else in the entire universe will ever have the same mark as us.
Body shaming needs to stop. All it is, is women hating on each other when we should really be using our brilliant minds to join in unity. Don’t forget that the Lord NEVER makes garbage and you are beautiful inside and out. Being different (and imperfect) is how God made us and put us on this Earth. So flaunt what your momma (and God) gave ya and realize that you are just as special as anyone else!
