As the weather became colder and the days shorter, the new year started to approach, and everyone began questioning what they should change about themselves, however small or big. Go to the gym more often, get better grades, make it on the Ellen show. However, it became increasingly obvious I would be going yet another year without declaring a single New Year's resolution. It was not the commitment, or my track record of lacking it, that prevented me from deciding what I wanted to change about myself at the end of the year, in order to create a seemingly better me for the next year. It was knowing I could change myself whenever I wanted to.
I don't see a reason in waiting for the end of the year to subject yourself to your own scrutiny in order to determine what it is you want to change to better yourself. I personally believe if there is something we absolutely must change, a goal we must achieve, what better time is there to start than now?
There will always be another year, another month, another week, another day we will wait for to make our resolutions. If they don't work out this year, maybe they will next year. If we don't become the person we want to be at the beginning of this new year, maybe we can deal with ourselves for a little longer and make another resolution the next year, to become better, happier, etc.
Yet, if we find it so important to set these resolutions for ourselves, why not work towards what we want as soon as we decide we want it? Why wait?
Throw away the idea that we must say the words of our goal into the universe at the beginning of the year in order for them to materialize. And go make them come true whenever you want.
You are the creator of your destiny. And that destiny is not limited to restarting at the beginning of the year.
