As the final few days of the year come to a close, gym memberships and healthy eating cooking books tend to go on sale, why? One of the most popular New Year's Resolution is to become healthier, more fit, or lose weight. Sure - New Year's Resolutions are a good way to make a goal for your future in the upcoming year, but in 2017 I will not be making one.
Is the idea overdone or overrated? Is it an excuse for gyms to hook people in return for a profitable result? The dictionary defines resolution as a definite choice, but fails to include the fact that something needs to be done. They are something we hope to accomplish, but most rarely do. We make the choice to go to the gym or start eating healthy, but there's no timeline or goal in mind as how to accomplishing this.
The dictionary defines a goal as the object of a person's ambition or effort; an aim or desired result. Goals have timelines and outcomes with real results. These are generally manageable and can easily be measured when accomplished.
This year, I am ditching the New Year's Resolution and establishing small, reachable goals for every month. That way I am able to know when I reach success and use the momentum to push myself further.
