Lil' Wayne, commonly referred to as "Weezy" or "Tunechi", is one of the biggest names in the hip-hop genre of music. The rapper holds many accolades and achievements, including a Grammy award (Best Rap Album) for his 2008 album, Tha Carter III, which sold one million copies in its' first week of distribution. Wayne has also been featured on hundreds of songs throughout his career, most recently collaborating with 2 Chainz on the joint project, Collegrove. While Wayne is continuing to pour out new music and collaborations with other artists, its' his long awaited musical album, Tha Carter V, which is keeping fans on the edge of their seats.
In 2014, as Wayne prepared to release the fifth installment in Tha Carter series, he released many singles to give his fans a preview of what was to come. "Believe Me", "Krazy", "Grindin", and "Start A Fire" are tracks which gained radio play upon the speculated release of Tha Carter V. However, the album was not released, due to complications with his Cash Money label mate and boss, Birdman. After several months of fans waiting for Weezy to release his twelfth studio album, the Louisiana rapper took to Twitter to give his fans insight on the situation.
Since the delay of Tha Carter V, Wayne has made sure to let his fans know that he is still one of the best rappers to ever record a track. In the absence of C5, Wayne has recorded Sorry 4 The Wait 2, F.W.A. (Free Weezy Album), and No Ceilings 2, and Collegrove. These projects have all served as pit stops on the bumpy road to Tha Carter V.
Birdman, who is being directly accused of delaying Weezy's album, spoke out about the situation recently in an interview with Ebro and Laura Stylez, hosts of Hot97's Ebro In The Morning. He stated " I would never stop him from doing nothing. He's still putting out records, I could stop that s*** if I wanted to. I ain't gonna stop him from hustling." The Cash Money label rapper was also involved in a 51 million dollar lawsuit with Tunechi, as the Young Money boss sued Birdman for failing to release his album, as well as failing to pay his label the royalties and profits they are rightfully owed. While Birdman claims that the feud between Weezy and himself will "work itself out", the delayed release of Weezy's fifth Carter installment raises question as to whether or not there has actually been a settlement between the two camps.
Fans of Lil' Wayne might be restless waiting for C5, but Wayne continues to keep them entertained. The arrival of Dedication 6, a follow-up of Wayne's successful Dedication mixtapes, is in the works, according to DJ Drama.Wayne also hinted at a possible sequel to Collegrove in an interview with Genius alongside College Park rapper, 2 Chainz. While there's no predictable outcome to the C5 crisis, what is known for certain is that Wayne will continue to give his fans the best of every project he's on, and he will live up to the high expectations that Tha Carter series gave his fans.
