No Makeup Day, Every Day

Sometimes, it's best to skip the eyeliner.

No Makeup Day, Every Day

Being the Libra that I am, I'm known for my laziness. My parents know it, my roomies know it, and all of my friends know it, too. I'd much rather be laying around in bed than out in the sunshine. While I make sure that I can nap as long as possible before I get to work or sleep in to the last minute before going to my classes, there's always something I absolutely can't go out without: makeup. I've recently been going through some old photos and it's almost shocking how I used to never wear makeup.

Makeup has come about these days as something that women wear to impress men. Makeup is almost always about men. For me, makeup is just about making myself look presentable for the greater public because otherwise I'd be a character from The Walking Dead without it. I've watched countless tutorials on how to get the perfect winged eyeliner, the most Kylie Jenner lips, and not to mention, the thousands of face contouring methods. I've asked myself why more than once, but now so more than ever before.

Women should wear makeup simply because they want to wear it and, if they don't, it shouldn't be a problem.

Makeup should be the same as wearing a cardigan over your shirt or just going without it. No big deal. When I've gone out in public without makeup I've gotten the questions of, "Are you okay?" or "You look sick." Why is it that I have to worry so much about my appearance that I have to cake on powders and creams until I've become some unrecognizable barbie? I'm tired of faking my looks to appease other people. I want to fake my looks to make myself happy.

Other girls I've spoken to have had the same reactions. They've all told me that they put makeup on either because they want to or because they think they look hideous without it. These days it's become a very popularized opinion that women have to wear makeup. Even the "no makeup" or "nude" look is still a bunch of makeup in skin-tones. It's very rare that I'll see someone without a bit of makeup on their face.

One of the pros of wearing makeup, many of you can sympathize with me, is the simple act of being able to rub your eyes again. We can't do that with a bunch of eye makeup on, can we? I've also found that not wearing makeup every day has helped my skin condition improve. Some people use more makeup to cover up blemishes but in the end that can clog pores and make your skin condition that much worse.

Ladies, please rethink it before you go out. If you're someone that has to put on makeup just to go to the grocery store, stop! If you're also someone that has to put on makeup to try and get men to like them, you need to stop!!

I mean this, and all of my advice comes from the heart. Makeup is something you need to do for you. It's for yourself and not for anyone else but you. If you're insecure about your looks, just imagine how everyone else feels. We're all insecure about our looks and caking on layers of makeup won't make it any worse. Your beauty radiates outwards and a pound of makeup might dull your true shine.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
