No, I'm Not Watching

We are all guilty of it, remaining on Netflix for hours. Avoiding some weekend event in favor of staying in and marathoning some tv show. But how do we break this cycle of passivity?

No, I'm Not Watching

Getting out and ending hours of inactivity can be difficult. It may have actually been so long since you've seen the sun this winter that you don't know what to do outside your apartment. If you are at a loss for activities here is a list of 15 better things to do than watching Netflix.

15. Go to a Friends House

Talking and gossiping with your friends can be just as entertaining as watching an episode of Friends.

14. Go to a Local Park

Local color pretty much anywhere can be found in a park. Charleston, for example, has weekly farmers markets, food truck festivals, and so much more in the park. You may also find your new favorite place to relax and unwind.

13. Workout

Try going to the gym instead of flipping on the shiny bright screen. If you are more of a home-body there are also workouts online that you can easily follow.

12. Cook

Go on Pinterest and find a delicious looking recipe. You can try new things and try your hand in the kitchen. Personally without the help of the internet, I'd still be burning water. You can also try changing a familiar recipe by changing the amount of ingredients or by adding something new.

11. Go for an Unplanned Mini Road-Trip

For lack of a phrase from 2015, my friends call these "YOLO trips." Do not plan ahead, just go and see where the world takes you.

10. Read a Book

Books are just as entertaining as TV and sometimes they are even better.

9. Actually Study

If you turn off your computer, you may find that you actually prepare more for class. Side effects of this may include better grades and high attendance.

8. Explore Your Neighborhood or an Area You've Never Been Before

Walking around you may discover new things you have not noticed before. When walking around your neighborhood you may actually meet you neighbors as well, making new friends.

7. Go to a Museum

You may learn something new and have a great time too. Local or national it does not matter, just get out there.

6. Invent Your Own Cocktail

A really fun one. Have an actual cocktail party and challenge your friends to an adult beverage making contest. Winner gets all the bragging rights.

5. Catch Up With an Old Friend

Call, text, or meet up with someone from your past. Make amends or make sure they still know you care. You never know who may need you or whom you may need in the future.

4. Try a New Sport or Activity

Getting outside, and active in college can be hard, but there are a plethora of new activities out there that you can try.

3. Craft

For a little, a big, a friend, or a family member. Being creative is far more fun than passively watching your 9th hour of How I Met Your Mother.

2. Window Shop

Living in Charleston, SC has made window shopping a favorite pastime of mine. A friend also shared the idea of looking at houses and apartments for fun as well.

1. People Watch

As a transplant from the North to the South I've learned much about the Southern culture through people watching. It is also fantastic, it's like getting a little glimpse into somebody else life.

If I have learned one thing in my lifetime, it is that friends are a privilege. No one is required to give you their company and yet there is some sort of shared connection that keeps you together. And from that friendship, you may even find yourself lucky enough to have a few more friends, thus forming a group. Here are just a few signs that prove your current friend group is the ultimate friend group.

When it comes to television, there’s very few sets of on-screen siblings that a lot of us can relate to. Only those who have grown up with siblings knows what it feels like to fight, prank, and love a sibling. Ross and Monica Geller were definitely overbearing and overshared some things through the series of "Friends," but they captured perfectly what real siblings feel in real life. Some of their antics were funny, some were a little weird but all of them are completely relatable to brothers and sisters everywhere.

College is a great place to meet people, especially through Greek life. If you look closely at sororities, you'll quickly see there are many different types of girls you will meet.

1. The Legacy.

Her sister was a member, her mom was a member, all of her aunts were members, and her grandma was a member. She has been waiting her whole life to wear these letters and cried hysterically on bid day. Although she can act entitled at times, you can bet she is one of the most enthusiastic sisters.

Every kid in college and/or high school dreams of summer the moment they walk through the door on the first day back in September. It becomes harder and harder to focus in classes and while doing assignments as the days get closer. The winter has been lagging, the days are short and dark, and no one is quite themselves due to lack of energy and sunlight. Let's face it: life is ten times better in the summertime.
