From Easter egg hunts to visiting the creepy mall Easter bunny, and dying Easter eggs, there are so many different Easter traditions which we celebrate with our loved ones. Although all these traditions are fun and cherished, we must not forget about the most special tradition of all, celebrating Jesus Christ's death and resurrection.
We tend to get so caught up in all the commercialized Easter festivities, that we forget to focus on what the holiday is actually all about. We forget to credit the one who gives us life and has set us free from our sins.
So Jesus came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. Pilate said to them, "Behold the Man!" When the chief priests and the officers saw him, they cried out, "Crucify Him, crucify him!" Pilate said to them, "Take him yourselves and crucify him for I find no guilt in him." - John 19:5-6 (ESV)
Disregarding Jesus is putting Him to death in your life all over again. Are you going to be like Pilate who let Jesus be put to death and didn't take a stand? Or are you going to bring light to Jesus' name this holiday season?
Easter is not about some bunny that hops around with eggs, it's about the greatest love story.
"When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit." - John 19:30
"But he was wounded for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his stripes we are healed." - Isaiah 53:5
Jesus DIED for us and our sins. He suffered from physical and spiritual pain, for us so that we may be set free. The Easter bunny brings us an Easter basket. Which seems more valuable?
Most importantly, Easter is celebrating that we have a RISEN Savior, who defeated the grave.
"See My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself; touch Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have." - Luke 24:39
The disciples witnessed the stone being rolled away and Jesus defeating the grave through His resurrection. Who's your superhero?
He has immeasurable grace and endless love. His gift is greater than any Easter basket you'll receiver, it is eternal life.
There is nothing wrong with bringing some Easter bunny fun into this holiday, but let us not forget the true meaning.
Let us give Jesus the worship He deserves, not just on this holiday, but every day.
It is finished.
It is well.
He is Risen! He is Risen, indeed!
