No, I Don't Know What I Want

Because when you're 18, you have to pick your future.

You go into your senior year of high school, feeling the most comfortable and confident you have in all of the four years you have been there. You are excited for all of the "last experiences" you will have that year. But within the school year, you have a lot of life choices you will need to make. You ask yourself questions like, "do I want to go to college?" "where should I apply?" "am I commuting or living on campus?" "what should I major in?" These questions need to be thought out and answered by the end of the nine month school year.

You visit schools, research different majors, narrow down your choices, and start filling out applications. Once you send those bad boys out, it is just a waiting game. Some schools get back to you quickly and others can take months. You get acceptance letters, a wait list letter or the "After careful consideration, I am sorry to inform you that..." After all of the schools reply, you write out pros and cons of each and at some point, pick the right college/university for you. But even when you think you have things all figured out, there is always that little voice in your head questioning every choice you have made regarding college.

I graduated from high school, I chose a college, a major and I still don't know what I want. When you are 18, you are told to choose your entire future. Do you know how stressful and scary that is? I will be majoring in Nursing at Holy Family University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania this upcoming fall. Do I know if I want to be a nurse for the rest of my life? Heck no! And you want to know something? That is okay! Go to college, don't go to college, commute, live on campus, go in as undecided... it is your life. As frightening as all of this responsibility can be, you are given the power to mold your own future.

If you don't enjoy what you are doing, do something about it. Change majors, switch schools, don't sit by and let life boss you around. When you finally find something you are passionate about, consider yourself a very lucky person. To some, that passion for something can come so easily and for others, they still haven't found that yet. Hold on and never let go of it. Never let anyone stand in your way, especially when you are on the road to success. If anything, bring them on that trip to success with you!

College can be a scary thing and you may not know what you want right now. Many people that are in college still don't know what they want either. Just remember that you are in charge of your own happiness and that the future is in your hands. Also, remember that if you want to switch majors or schools, it all happens for a reason. Make sure you step back and look at the bigger picture, your happiness. Work hard to reach the top and wave down to all of the people who didn't think you could do it.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

It's not all morning coffees and singing along to the radio.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!
