Just a mere two years ago, Kevin Durant was my favorite basketball player. Absolutely no doubt about it. I used to fill my closet with KD apparel, and cover the walls of my room with posters and cutouts of the great "Durantula." I literally loved this man. I mean, how could you not? He is quite possibly the most offensively gifted basketball player ever. Unlimited range on his jump shot, the ball handling skills of a point guard, the height of Wilt Chamberlain, along with the courtesy to credit his mother as the “real MVP” during his own MVP acceptance speech. In short, Kevin Durant was very likable, until now…
Now, During Drake’s glorious summer 16, Kevin Durant has elected to become the NBA’s MVP (Most Valuable P***y) with his announcement of his intention to sign with the Golden State Warriors: The team that knocked off Durant’s former team (OKC Thunder) from this year’s playoffs… One game away from a chance at the highly coveted title.
I understand he wants to win now. Nothing weighs heavier on the legacy of an NBA superstar than the absence of a championship ring. On the other hand, to win one by hopping on the bandwagon of an arrogant 73-9 team that beat you in seven games after coming back from a 3-1 series deficit… I cannot respect that. He is arguably the SECOND BEST PLAYER ON THE PLANET, and he chose to join a bunch of former rivals who just finished giving him the business.
Honestly, what saddens me the most is the demise of Kevin Durant, the competitor. He was one game away from a rematch with LeBron James in the Finals. Something he has probably yearned for more than anything else over the past 4 years (lost to James in the 2012 Finals). What happened to the Kevin Durant that was "tired of being second?"The 6'11" shooting assassin whose inner fire always seemed to be smoldering. What happened to that Kevin Durant? I mean, I knew he was done with being second, but I never imagined he would get over the hump by joining the hump! Too unreal for me. Way worse than LeBron's "Decision." Keep dreaming LeBron haters!
It is impossible to equate Durant's move to the Miami Heat super team that was formed in 2010 (signed LeBron James & Chris Bosh). Durant's decision to join the Warriors is equivalent to if LeBron had joined the 2008 Champion Boston Celtics after losing to them in seven games. By the way, when LeBron left Cleveland, he did not ditch anyone close to the caliber of Russell Westbrook. An utter disgrace.
Instead, LeBron joined his buddies on the Heat to make sure he could put an end to the Celtics' title hopes. Six years and three titles later, LeBron has to feel pretty satisfied. I wonder how KD will feel after he wins a title that was handed to him on a silver platter.
