College can be stressful but such a wonderful thing, but we also get pressured early on in our lives to get our college degrees, find a career, get married, have babies, and live happily ever after.
As wonderful as this all sounds, the majority of us do most of this out of order. I have friends who are moms going back to school, I have friends who are already in their career-based jobs, I even have some friends/family members who aren't going to school at all.
Everyone has a different life path, and that's what life is all about. What fun would there be if we all did everything the same, at the same age, and at the same time?
I just turned twenty-two almost a week ago, and I am starting my last (hopefully) two years of school at MTSU for my bachelors degree in broadcasting journalism. In May of this year, I graduated from community college in TN with my associates in mass communications. I didn't start school until I was nineteen, and a year after I graduated high school. During my time of no school, I moved halfway across the country, lived in a big city for three months, took a nanny job, and traveled through lots of states.
Even though I am happy about what I did, sometimes I feel sad that I'm not in my career job with my bachelors degree yet. I feel like I should already be in that part of my life. But where would I be if I was there? Would I be dating who I'm dating now? probably not. Would I be living in a cute townhouse with two cats? probably not. There is nothing wrong with getting your degree when you're twenty-seven, fifty, even people in their seventies are in school. Just because you might not be where most of your friends or people your age are at, doesn't mean there's anything wrong with you, it just means you were meant for a different path.
Don't feel discouraged just because some people are "ahead" of you in school/life- no one is ahead of one another, everyone is simply where they are suppose to be for THEIR purpose. Don't let society or others discourage you, do what is best for you.
