So you're an incoming freshman. College promises to be exciting and you've been looking forward to it for ages. And you're coming to the New Jersey Institute of Technology. Let's be honest, NJIT is probably not your first choice in schools. You might even be bummed that you are coming here, but trust me it's not that bad. You don't know how wonderful our school is. Sure it has negatives, but it has it's silver linings.
1. You Get To Stay In Shape
One of the best things about NJIT is that they want you to be healthy. The school really encourages people to take the stairs. In fact, they encourage it so much that frequently, the elevators aren't even an option. Because they're out of order. The school just wants your calves to look great.
2. You Get to Eat Healthy
Another point about health at NJIT is how much grilled chicken you're going to eat. So they give away free passes for food at orientations for potential students. Usually weekend mornings. They have a decent brunch food, right? The food just goes downhill from there. It's a good thing the grilled chicken is consistently decent. A diet based on lean chicken breast will help keep that Freshman 15 away.
3. You Get Really Familiar With People
At this school, you get plenty of opportunities to get familiar with people. At such a small school, if you get out and do things you're going to see the same people repeatedly. It's hard not to get familiar with people when they're the only ones you run into. Because they're the ones that actually leave their room, you will actually be able to get to know them. It won't take long, there's not many that do.
4. You Can’t Get Lost In The Green
Now with all the friends you make, you'll probably want to hang out with them. Probably outdoors. Maybe someplace green and spacious. Everyone loves getting some fresh air and sitting under a tree. Well at NJIT, all you'll have to tell them is to meet you on the green. You don't even have to tell them specifically where! In such a small speck of green on campus, you'll never have to look hard to find your friends there.
5. Quiet Study Weekends
There is plenty of quiet time to study on the weekends. Now on a college campus, there is an expectation of it getting pretty wild on weekends. A bunch of young adults in small space with nothing important to do? It should get pretty rowdy on weekends. But at NJIT you can study for your Monday common exam in relative peace. There isn't a lot of distraction from loud people because there aren't a lot people to make distractions. A lot of people go home on the weekends and it leaves the campus really quiet. It gives you plenty of peace and quiet to study.
6. You Learn to Deal with Red Tape
A tough thing to learn in the real world is how to deal with "red tape." You know, going through administrative fluff to get something relatively simple done. NJIT is a great at teaching students how to deal with it. From dealing with $0 administrative holds on your account to arguing with a counselor that you should be able to change your major, you get to deal with a lot it. You'll leave NJIT with a wealth of experience cutting through that red tape.
7. You Get a Second Look at Your Schedule
NJIT gives you the opportunity to second guess that class in your schedule for next semester. A fresh experience for an incoming freshman is choosing classes. It happens at midnight for everyone of the same year. You are supposed to choose your classes and submit it, quick and easy. That happens, if you get a miracle. But because of a timely server crash (that is guaranteed to happen), you get the opportunity to take another look at your perfectly planned schedule.
Now you know how great NJIT is. It's going to be an experience for incoming freshman. Good Luck.
