The price of college tuition is pretty steep, regardless of the school you choose to attend. A meal plan, seminars, free t-shirts, and a built-in gym membership hardly seem to account for the yearly sum. However, with a little digging, you may be surprised to find out just how many resources and benefits your college or university offers.

Carmichael Gymnasium at NC State University is home to a few of the many "hidden" gems University Recreation offers students -- all covered by tuition or provided at significantlydiscounted rates. All you've got to do is swipe your OneCard.

1. Sweat it out

So many students are shocked to learn that there's a sauna at NC State. This, apparently, well-kept secret is located on the first floor of Carmichael between the men's and women's locker rooms. Fun fact: there's also a steam room right around the corner from the sauna.

2. Outdoor Adventure trips

You may or may not be familiar with NC State Outdoor Adventures. Every month, university recreation takes trips or holds classes that are either free of charge or significantly discounted for students (transportation included). Everything from skiing to backpacking trips are offered. If you don't have spring break plans, check them out for super affordable in-state and out-of-state options!

3. Outdoor Adventure rentals

If group activities aren't your thing, no worries! University Recreation has you covered with equipment rentals. Prices start as low as $3, and students can rent anything from street bikes to camping gear.

4. Wellness coaching

As an NC State student, you have access to free wellness coaching at Carmichael. This is huge, and not at all the same as the counseling center. Wellness coaches can help you set goals and improve your overall productivity and quality of life with guidance regarding time management, nutrition, sleep, and more.

5. Rock climbing

Looking to switch up your workout routine? Try indoor climbing! Once you've mastered the wall, you can improve your skills by participating in one of the many climbing and/or belay clinics offered to students for only $10.

6. Health & fitness certifications

Not only do students have access to certified group fitness instructors, personal trainers, and wellness coaches, NC State also provides students the opportunity to receive their own fitness and health coach certifications. Participating students receive a discounted price for access to online courses and in-person labs to become nationally certified group instructors, personal trainers and/or coaches.

7. Nontraditional sports

If basketball and soccer are too basic for your liking, University Recreation offers a variety of custom sports events and equipment. Bubble soccer, pool battleship, and life-size Hungry Hungry Hippos are just three activities I've been introduced to since coming to NC State. Students can also rent their own equipment for less traditional sports like cricket and bocce.

These are only seven resources on an exhaustive list NC State offers, but many students will never tap into it. Don't make that mistake. It's already being paid for, might as well take advantage!

1. You don't have to feel guilty about flirting with customers for tips (or just for shits and giggles).

2. You can be obnoxiously flirtatious with anyone you want. You are free to be that girl that flirts with everybody and makes 'em all smile (it's especially fun when the guy is as cute as Collin Jost). No shame.

3. Making random men nervous with your superior beauty and intense eye contact just for the hell of it is really amusing and empowering.

4. No one gives two poops if ya legs are hairy (your man shouldn't either but *Kermit the Frog meme* That's none of my business)

5. The toilet seat will remain down.

6. There's more money to spend on yourself.

7. There's always this secret butterfly in your tummy that marvels at the possibility that when you go out this weekend you're gonna meet someone super handsome/wonderful/prince-like and have this moment of dazzling dalliance.

8. Nothing is that serious...you can take it all with a grain of salt...you don't owe anybody anything.

9. You can dance with anyone and everyone...or no one (Hello frat boi w/ glasses, I see you).

10. You don't have to fluff anyone's ego but your own.

11. Free drinks and dinners from single guys (It's not taking advantage if they're offering; a girl's gotta eat).

12. You have more time to learn how to love and improve yourself rather than constantly pouring your energy into another person.

13. You don't have to sacrifice your cheesy Jen Aniston rom-coms and Gilmore Girls for his Fast and Furious/other dumb action movie featuring blonde that is only in the movie to supply a relationship to the male lead and to make him look more masculine/empowered in juxtaposition (In other words, you don't have to deal with a guy being a crabby Patty while you watch your cute movies).

14. You can daydream about what your future husband may be doing right now (and not get stressed/guilty out because you're not picturing your current boyfriend that's crazy about you as your future husband).

15. There is more time to be spent with your girlfriends.

Girls Night In
Milk + Blush

We've all been there - you've been saying since Tuesday after French that this weekend is the weekend. You're finally going to break out those new heels and actually put on eyeliner on and make this Friday night be one for the memory books! That is, of course, until Girls Night Out turned into...Girls Night In.
