The Claypool Lennon Delirium has created a debut album like no modern music day audience has ever experienced before. The psychedelic rock album is named Monolith of Phobos. The rock duo consists of particularly well-known, talented members including Sean Lennon and Les Claypool. The two come together with completely different music styles to create an album that has never been heard before.

Lennon and Claypool have both previously worked separately in the music industry leading up to the suspense for their unique and original album.

John Lennon serves as a powerful image in music history as both a solo artist and member of The Beatles. Therefore it was not shocking to discover that his son, Sean Lennon, would also be destine for the same musical greatness. Sean Lennon has worked with several artists and solo in the past. Yet, collaborating with Les Claypool would spark magic that he had never experienced before.

Les Claypool is a well-known American musician, singer, and songwriter. A great amount of his fame was created as he was the bassist and lead vocalist of the band Primus. Claypool’s playing style stands out above the rest because of his exceptional strumming, whammy barring, and slapping. After Primus, Claypool went on to work as a solo artists bringing him the idea to start working with Sean Lennon.

Lennon and Claypool released their debut album Monolith of Phobos on June 3rd, 2016. Their hot tracks gained major attention as they created a powerful message and performed it through innovative playing. The album is highly influenced by the genre of psychedelic rock that was popular in the 1960s. This allows Lennon and Claypool’s audience to jam out in a way that is usually no longer offered in the modern day music industry. The two artists have expressed how one of their biggest inspirations for the album came from sitting down and watching the Monkees' Head. The film is a 1968 American adventure musical satirical film written by Jack Nicholson and Bob Rafelson. The film stars the television rock group The Monkees. Head streams several unique concepts together throughout the film including musical numbers, psychedelic cinematography, and references to topical issues such as the Vietnam War and drugs.

Although Head influenced the duo’s album to be mainly psychedelic, the lyrics of the album offer a different message. Several songs on Lennon and Claypool’s album stray away from promoting the use of drugs. Instead, the two use their lyrics to show the dangers that come with obsessive drug and substance abuse. The song “Oxycontin Girl” brings up the major heroin problem that the United States is currently facing. The song states, “When she ran out of pills she scored on the street. And now her lips are turning blue” expressing the real danger that comes with heroin and opioid abuse in younger generations. The duo’s strange and powerful lyrics keep the band’s fans on their toes. Even though the two artist talk about vulgar subjects, the album is produced in a way where the audience can still feel free and flow to the music that has been created. Lennon and Claypool deserve much credit as their two different styles come together to create a sound and message that any music listener can engage in.

The Claypool Lennon Delirium has just started their 2016 United States tour and will continue until October 30th, 2016. For more details visit http://theclaypoollennondelirium.com/.
