Nicki, please don't leave us in the neon-colored claws of Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion.
For years Nicki Minaj has impressed us not only with her confident bars and controversial attire, but also with her constant encouragement to her young fans to stay in school. At concerts she would give whole speeches about the importance of taking care of yourself and becoming educated, and in her Twitter feed you can find instances where she's paid for fans' books or university fees. A woman who teaches twerking AND going to class? Love it.
But unfortunately, the reign of the queen of hip-hop had to end at some point. The 11-time BET award winner announced on Twitter yesterday that she would no longer be making music.
From Starships in 2012 to Pills N Potions in 2014 to MEGATRON in 2019, Nicki has managed to stay relevant for years. It'll be sad to not see her stirring up beef at awards shows or hear her grunting about how she doesn't need men on the radio, but I'm really interested to see her kids on Instagram. She'll be missed, but I think it's commendable that she's willing to give up a career she loved to be there full-time for her family.
