Ever since I can remember, people all across the world have shared a deep hatred for the pop-rock Canadian band known as Nickelback. I still don’t know why people think their music is so bad. Anytime one of their tunes comes on the radio, I always sing along because it's really good to me. I always wondered what was wrong with me that I enjoyed these songs from a band everyone despised, and eventually, I found out I wasn’t wrong – but everyone else was.
But even with great music, Nickelback is still considered a terrible band. Why? Seriously, is it all just a joke that you say you hate Nickelback when you really love them? If so, why is this joke so widespread on every continent?
My favorite song of theirs, ‘Photograph’, is such a good song and it seems like everyone knows the tune and the lyrics by heart. Why would people memorize song lyrics to a band they dislike so much? I really cannot understand this random hatred of this early 2000’s band.
Do not lie to me and say that you don’t think ‘Photograph’, ‘How You Remind Me’, or ‘Savin’ Me’ were your low-key jams in middle school or your early years of high school. There is not one person I was friends with who didn’t have at least one of these songs in their iPod’s most played list.
Forgive me for not following the “I Hate Nickelback” train, but Nickelback does not deserve to be put in the bad band category that currently homes the true awful artists of the music world – whom will not be named for argument’s sake. They deserve to be in the general category of early 2000’s music that homes some favorites like NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, and Green Day.
Take some advice from me, someone who is completely okay with admitting I enjoy the music of Nickelback and give their songs another listen. I know it may have been a while since you’ve really listened to the band, other than it coming on the car radio while you’re driving, but give it another chance. Once you listen to a few songs, ask yourself why you hate them if you still hate them, and once you realize you like them listen to some more of their music.
So, I think it’s about high time that people start to admit they actually like Nickelback and their music because we all resonate with its somewhat teenage angst-filled and angry lyrics and really fun guitars within their music. I’d also like to point out that at least sixty percent of people today who say they hate Nickelback still have some of their classics lying in wait in their iTunes library. Don’t deny that you like music that maybe other people don’t like. Especially if it’s Nickelback.
