Throughout my time in college, I have become known as someone who loves Nicholas Cage. I'm honestly not sure why I mean I only own two Nicholas Cage pillows and have contemplated photo-shopping his face onto these stock photos I never removed from some picture frames. I have not even seen all his movies, I just appreciate his oddball self.
He seems to be one of those celebrities that people just like to hate because he is an easy target. I've never understood the reasoning to hate on celebrities for no reason because it is popular to do so (looking at Nickelback). He does not really deserve it. I'm not saying we should worship him, but at least give some credit where credit is due.
He does have some controversies in his past, I am not denying those. He has not even had the best movie streak either starring in movies from "The Wicker Man" to the "National Treasure" franchise to one of my favorites "Kick-ass". His movies are honestly really good, really bad, or so bad they are hilarious (looking at you "Vampire's Kiss). However you view his movies, he has given rise to so many popular memes, sayings, and just a way to bring laughter to people even when he does not mean too.
His portrayal and dedication to characters who are a little less than sane is astonishing. I mean he has eaten several live cockroaches for goodness sake. Sometimes it seems like he did bring his more insane characters into his life, such as his interesting buying habits, taking mushrooms with his cat and even making his own cover of "Sexy and I Know It"
I do not think Nicholas Cage is a bad actor, he is just given poorly written movies to be in. He is able to work with what he is given without fail. It is honestly not his fault with how the writers give him some of the most awkward dialogue known to man. He delivers those lines to the best of his ability, even if sometimes they do come with some of his more extreme faces.
So do not just hate on Nicholas Cage just because it is "cool." If you really dislike him, that's okay, you didn't deserve the Declaration of Independence anyway.
