It’s always great to have nice people around. We enjoy them, maybe live off their kindness and don’t mind if they tag along to hang out.
But there are times when being “nice” backfires and comes across as annoying, fake or pushy. Here are some “nice” things people do, that are actually pretty annoying.
1. Holding the door/elevator open for you when you’re not close by…
And so you have to do that fast walk/jog thing so you won’t feel bad for making them stand there. Why would you keep the door open when someone is about 10 feet away?
Close the door and keep going, we can figure out how to open it by ourselves!
2. Giving directions to someone really loudly.
Okay, I get it. You want to help the poor lost fellow out. But, why talk so loud though? Are you trying to make your voice clearer or something? Just talk normally, please.
3. Saying “Hi” and starting a conversation…
When all you want to do is walk around in quiet contemplation. I know it’s nice to say hi to friends, but honestly, keep it at a "hi" and allow me to get on with life!
4. Sending out Happy New Year/month messages.
These get on my nerves so much. Why are you wishing me a happy New Year? It’s going to happy whether you wish it or not! Also, I am aware that the message has been crafted and sent to maybe everyone on their contacts so it’s just meaningless!
5. Trying to let you go in a doorway before them…
When it would be easier if they just went first! Just walk in and stop trying to be chivalrous/nice, it’s disgusting.
6. That fake “hello” smile they give…
So, you’re now forced to smile back or seem mean. I don’t know you, why are you smiling at me? That smile is fake, and I want no part in dealing out equally fake smiles.
7. Posting snaps/pics of you on your birthday…
When you’re not really friends. Stop. Just stop. I would prefer a nice private happy birthday. No need to blow up your IG or snapchat with my spics when we barely even speak!
And those are some nice but annoying things people. If you have any others, feel free to comment them!
