Get to Know Me!

This is where we would shake hands if we actually met...

Get to Know Me!

Nice to meet you, I'm Abigail.

In my miniature career with the Odyssey, I have never really introduced myself to anyone that may read my articles. This is what I decided to do today.

Hello, my name is Abigail Dutton. I am a fan of literature and rhetoric- which may be a bit obvious due to the fact that I'm a writer for Odyssey- and I aspire to one day be an English teacher or professor. If that doesn't end up being my future, I will most likely pursue something in the music industry or the arts in general because I really love using my creativity to inspire others.

To look at this as if it were a "fun facts about me" type situation, I'll share things that are new to you, but most likely obvious to anybody that knows me. I love the color yellow- it is my very favorite color even though my wardrobe likes to disagree with me and say I like black or blue better. Also, I drink a lot of coffee. I love lattes to accompany my homework so I don't totally stress all the time. Rain is another one of my favorite things. Ever since I was a little girl, I loved rain and all that came with it. The idea of a rainy day just gives me peace and happiness. I like to spend my time either painting, reading, photographing or playing the piano.

You could say that I am the queen of procrastination. It's terrible how much I can convince myself that something crucial to my life is suddenly irrelevant. I'm working on being better, but for now it is a terrible issue. Besides being a terrible procrastinator student, I am also a college freshman while in my senior year. By the time I graduate, I will be nearly completed with freshman year and will start my college career as a sophomore! While it is really exciting, it makes me a bit of a stress-ball all of the time. Another one of my extracurricular activities is speech and debate. Being good at arguing finally started benefiting me and it actually got me to state debate this year! I also made it to state speech and was a semi-finalist there.

While many may not believe this because I in no way act like one, I am an Aries. Some believe in all of the astrology stuff and others don't, but all I know is that a lot of things that Aries people tend to do are things that I tend to do... So you can connect the dots there. I also am an INTJ for people that like the MBTI personality types better. This is also very accurate to my personality and who I am.

Quite possibly one of the biggest things I consider myself is a Christian and a missionary. I was born and raised in a Christian household with two missionary parents who have taught me exactly the type of person I want to be. The whole concept of living for others and telling them about God is something that gets me excited. I just want to make a positive difference in somebody's life someday.

Long story short, I have a lot of things that make me me. But, I make sense to me and that's all that matters, right? This article isn't very uplifting or humorous, but I hope that it helped you maybe understand my perspective on topics a little better and overall where I come from! Buy me coffee or a new candle and we'll be friends forever!

Christmas Tree
History.com

Now that Halloween is over, it's time to focus on the Holiday Season. Don't get me wrong, I think Thanksgiving is great and can't wait for it, but nothing gives me greater joy than watching Freeform's 25 Days of Christmas, lighting peppermint scented candles, decking the halls, and baking gingerbread cookies. So while we approach the greatest time of the year, let's watch the 15 best Christmas movies of all time.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. Ever heard of “pain is temporary, but GPA is forever?” Pre-meds don’t just embody that motto; we live and breathe it. Here are 10 symptoms you’re down with the pre-med student syndrome.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
