Nice Guys Finish Last

The truth about shady jerks and nice guys.

Nice Guys Finish Last

The bad boys catch our eyes, but do they keep our attention?

Growing up I probably heard from Mother daily, “ Oh it’s true, the nice guys always finish last.” I have a feeling that she was slightly insinuating that my sister and I were just some cruel heart breaking man-eaters. But I learned she was wrong about that.

If there’s one thing I know, it’s that girls will always be attracted to the bad-a** boys, draped in tattoos, or the new hottie in town with his motorcycle. The longer it takes a boy to text you back – the more you like him.

Well, let me tell you, these boys will bring you no good, and will probably give your father a heart attack. What is it that attracts us to every wrong boy? Stop chasing them around, because if you’re chasing them – who’s chasing you? A girl deserves to be chased. Trust me, I understand the thrill of having a bad boy. The drama, lying, cheating. It’s all fun and games right? No.

Take it upon yourself to date a few of these shady jerks, and believe me you will quickly learn. Once the thrill of trying to chase your boyfriend around, or stalking his social media every hour, you’ll come to see that the good guys are the way to go. And once you realize this you’ll never go back. After you’ve spent months waiting for a text that will never come, crying as he goes home with another girl in front of you, and forgets your birthday, you’ll learn.

When you least expect it, a new boy will walk into your life, and not just with the intent of getting you in bed. He’ll ask you to do things, and you’ll think he’s strange for not trying to meet you in the middle of the dance floor after a few vodka cranberries. You’ll continually tell your roommates “ he’s too boring for me.”

He is not too lame for you at all, he just is a nice guy and isn’t your typical man-whore. He’s the boy that sees when you change your nail color and knows when you’re fake smiling. He’ll let you pick the movie, then precede to let you talk through the whole movie because he knows there’s no hope of you shutting up. When everyone else leaves the pregame to go out, he’ll suggest that the two of you stay and hangout to get to know each other.

He is the boy that will love you even when you don’t love yourself, and no matter how much you deny it, you’ll fall for the nice guy. You’ll appreciate all the little things he does, like open doors or give you the last Pringle in the can. And in no time you’ll realize how silly you've been in the past, wasting your precious time with all the wrong boys.

Every girl may need to be pushed around by a jerk or two before she’ll naturally fall for a new guy. So Mama you may say, “nice guys finish last,” but that is only because you meant nice guys put their girlfriends first. They never leave their girlfriends waiting for them and treat them like princesses.

It may take heartbreak or two before you come to your senses, but trust me, every girl will finally come to their senses and see that in the end it’s the nice guys that are there. They are indeed the winners. So thank you to the nice guy who finally showed me the true meaning to this quote. You were well worth the learning experience.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
