On Friday, September 14th, at the Xfinity Theatre in Hartford, Connecticut, I was fortunate enough to attend a show apart of Niall Horan's Flicker Tour. As lame as it may sound, I went with my best friend…and both of our mothers. Yes, I am an adult who is fully capable of seeing a show alone with her adult friend, but our mothers are just as big (if not bigger) fans of Niall as we are.
And, the wonderful part about Niall's concerts is that they're appealing to such a wide range of people. The audience was filled with younger fans and their parents, girls with their boyfriends, groups of boys alone, groups of girls alone, and many other combinations. With his genre being a mix of pop/country, the chill vibes being radiated throughout the night created such a fun and carefree atmosphere for everyone in the building (and on the lawn).
As a fan of Niall from the start of his One Direction days, I was not sure what type of concert this would turn out to be. A few months back, my friend and I went to see Harry Styles live (yes, with our moms again), and the show was bubbling with wild energy. However, that's the nature of Harry's stage persona; Niall, on the other hand, is a much more laid back fellow. Thus, I was very much expecting a calmer scene than Harry's. And honestly, I hit the nail on the head.
Niall opened up with one of his more upbeat songs, "The Tide," and then lead the audience into a more relaxed vibe with songs like "Paper Houses" and "Flicker." At the beginning of the show, he even said himself, "If you like sad songs, there's a lot them." Regardless, the show was still a bop and a half. By incorporating covers of One Direction's "Fool's Gold" and "Drag Me Down," he had the audience in tears, mourning for the boy band.
As someone who prefers a concert where I can move around and dance like crazy, his was a bit tame for me, but still incredibly enjoyable. I was absolutely thriving and getting down to the closing song of the show, "Mirrors," a song that, dare I say, mirrors my inner feelings about being in love.
The venue, having both an indoor and an outdoor section, was without a doubt more intimate if you had seats inside. I felt up close and personal with little Nialler, even though we weren't even that close to the stage.
Overall, seeing Niall live in a solo act was a lovely experience, perfect for those who prefer more relaxed concerts. A cute and simple 7/10 from me (but of course, I'm biased from my love of 1D).
