Recently, NFL players have been supporting their favorite causes with just a simple pair of shoes. Some of these players are wearing cleats to support their favorite causes such as ovarian cancer and the Ronald McDonald foundation.
This is a big step for not only the NFL, but also for different causes. As I have experienced in the past, big funds have gained a lot of publicity with the NFL. For example, it is common for the NFL to incorporate breast cancer awareness into football games, implementing pink in their games with towels, cleats, and jerseys. While this is fine and still for important causes, this "My Cleats, My Cause" showcases a variety of causes, allowing for them to get the publicity they deserve.
In specific, Jameis Winston, quarterback of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, wore cleats to support JDRF or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund. This hits home for me as a Type One Diabetic. Being a diabetic, I go through life with a different perspective. As I can appreciate the publicity of other foundations, obviously JDRF is very near and dear to my heart. I have lived in a world where diabetes is misunderstood and disregarded. Seeing NFL players show their support for not only JDRF, but also other charities that lack the publicity they deserve.
In close, I would like to personally thank the NFL players that are showing their support for the various causes, but I would like to especially thank Jameis Winston. It means so much to me to see someone take the time to support something that affects me every day.
