So it begins.
Most, if not all, training camps have begun, and preseason football isn't that far around the corner. Even though we haven't seen a lot of football played, there are already favorites to claim their divisions, conferences, and the Super Bowl.
The biggest news of the offseason was that the four-game suspension of Tom Brady will no longer be contested, and it will be upheld by Roger Goodell, the much-maligned commissioner of the NFL. The two groups that take sides in this issue, namely Patriots fans, and then everyone else on the other side of the issue. Most people are assured that he's guilty and that he deserves the suspension, but the beef lies in Goodell handing down a more or less draconian punishment against Brady.
Aside from that, deals that have sent people scurrying are Chandler Jones to the Cardinals, Von Miller getting a ridiculously large extension, and Josh Gordon's return to the big stage after having not played since December of 2014 due to drug tests coming back positive.
For expectations, JJ Watt will dominate the line in every game he plays. He will show absolutely no signs of slowing down, and his versatility is a gift that will be utilized by the Texans Defense. Expect the Panthers to come back with a vengeance, and the Raiders to come into their own. They've had a few years to mesh and come together under QB Derek Carr, the face of the franchise. Their defense has steadily improved, and the acquisition of superstar Khalil Mack has only bolstered their claims of strength.
For predictions, expect the 49ers to make a bit of an improvement. After all, it'll be hard to do worse than their efforts last year. The Patriots will shine without Tom Brady, and Jimmy Garappolo will show that he's a competent QB. Arian Foster will get his step back with the Miami Dolphins, a nice change of scenery compared to his former home of Houston, and Lamar Miller will see a decent year in Houston.
As for everything else that could possibly happen, we'll just have to wait and see.
