My Mom informed me today that I am a Nexter.
Uh...
My response: "What did you just call me?"
I've been called everything in the book (trust me), but never Nexter. In the seconds that followed, I racked my brain trying to figure out if I had missed something along the way in my 15 years of schooling (and if my parent's money was actually being put to good use). Nope, never heard of it. And I'd like to think I have a fairly expansive vocabulary.
It turns out, Nexter is a word. It is a label for anyone born from 1980-1994--in other words, a subgroup of millennials. By the way, if you are a Nexter, you are also considered to be part of Generation Y; this term makes us sound like we are test rats in a lab, and the scientists are the baby boomers. I can't say that either of these labels are especially endearing, but we can't ask for the moon, right?
So for all you millennials out there who get criticized simply for being born when you were, I have a solution for you. The next time people call you a millennial, simply respond with, "I believe you mean Nexter." I guarantee that they will never look at millennials the same again--and they might just add a new word to their vocabulary, too.
