I’m so excited preparing for my sophomore year of college. As another school year is just around the corner, I remember my freshmen year in college was definitely not all sunshine and roses. But even through the ups and downs, my first year of college was one of the best experiences. I’ve met so many people, learned to be independent, and to put myself out there to the world I like to call “adulting.”
Now I’m watching a lot of people I know get ready for their first year and I can see they are going through a lot of emotions like I was. They’re excited and nervous for the unknown. Here’s a few things that I believe that you should know before off into the next chapter of your life.
1.You will miss your family.
You will miss your parents the most. Even though you don’t think so, you will. You’ll miss weird things like your parents yelling at you to do the dishes, or your little brother or sister bugging you. And that’s OK. It does take longer than others to get over the homesick, but it doesn’t mean that college is going to be horrible because your away from home. It just takes time for you to get used to not seeing your loved ones every single day.
2.Don’t stay in your dorm.
This is your time to meet new people. Your going to meet your lifetime friends in college. This is your time to go on adventures in the new city or state that your in now. Go explore the things around you.
3.Time management is everything.
Now that you’re in college no one is going to tell you to do your homework, or to study for your upcoming final. You have to do everything yourself. Not only that, you have to take the time to do your homework and not to procrastinate. That is the worst thing you can do on a big project or big paper.
4.You don’t have to go out if you don’t want to.
Movies over exaggerate that all people do in college is party. Yes, go out with friends to go adventures with your friends, but also make time for yourself, too. Things get hectic with school, managing time, managing your money and everything that comes with being a college student.
I could go on and on what I think would be helpful. But there’s just things that you have to find out on your own. I wish nothing but the best to the upcoming college freshmen.
