Since winning the Undisputed UFC Lightweight Title at UFC 223 a few weeks ago, there is plenty of speculation for what is next for the champ Khabib Nurmagomedov. Rumors surfaced that after his tremendous performance against Justin Gaethje at UFC On Fox 29, Dustin Poirier is potentially the next person in line for a title shot. Many are saying before Conor Mcgregor's antics at UFC's Media Day he was going to have an announcement to make. Was he gonna challenge Khabib for the belt after his victory? Who knows.
Since Tony Ferguson had surgery on his knee he has been posting on his social media and he looks like he is healing well. But unfortunately, there is really no clear window to when El Cuyuy will be returning to the octagon with the kind of injury he suffered from. It could be a year from now, and will Khabib's and Tony's rivalry still be as intense as it has been? or will Dana and the team even consider that match considering how many times it has fallen apart?
By all means, Dustin has deserved the title shot, but will he be granted it? Dustin has won 2 of his 3 last fights. His loss was a controversial one to former champion Eddie Alvarez as Dustin was a downed opponent who was hit with knee strikes which are completely against the rules. The decision was overturned to a No Contest because of the controversy within the fight.
That may be the biggest question in the Mix Martial Arts world today seeing how for the most part Conor Mcgregor will be out of the picture for awhile until his court date this summer. There is a high chance of the Superfight between Featherweight Champ Max Holloway and Khabib getting booked again but more than likely after Max Defends his title against his next speculated opponent Brian Ortega. It would be interesting to see both Khabib and Max in a full camp preparing for each other. It could also easily be one of the biggest Superfights to take place this year.
Dustin is well deserving to face Khabib but it would be nice to see a rematch between Dustin and Eddie Alvarez, maybe for an Interim Lightweight Title? Dana White stated that El Cuyuy Tony Ferguson was stripped from his Interim-Title which really does not make any sense.
Especially seeing how He has caused any trouble and it was a freak accident that caused his injury. He also did not smash a bus window with a dolly, so seeing how Tony is stripped of his Interim-title is pretty mindblowing. UFC has blessed with some really good cards as the Year 2018 goes on. The Mix Martial Arts world is ready to see who is next to the Eagle!
