I know what you’re thinking: Morgan, I already have an inbox that is filled with well over 2,000+ emails. Why, in my right mind, would I willingly sign up for another email?
Firstly, if you have 2,000+ emails in your inbox right now I have an entirely different article for you to check out when you’re done here. Click this link if you’re curious about how to vanquish your inbox portal to hell and replace it with an interesting collection of news, inspiration, tidbits and more.
Back to the question at hand, and the point of this article you found curious enough to click on. The answer can be told in two parts:
- You are a college kid and therefore you are at a time in your life when you are trying to absorb anything and everything that you can. Knowledge, life hacks, tips, skills… the list goes on. What if I told you that you could have all of this delivered to your inbox daily, weekly, or monthly in a clear, concise manner that requires no extra digging through search engines on your part. That is the glory of the newsletter, my friend.
- Now, this is the part of the answer that you aren’t supposed to share with too many people… Newsletter? They are amazing for productive procrastination.
What do I mean by productive procrastination? This is a time-wasting practice that adds value to your life. Instead of scrolling through Facebook while putting off an assignment, pull up your email instead and take a look at the wealth of knowledge that you have subscribed yourself to.
I guarantee you that what you will find in newsletters will not only be more interesting than the endless posts of engagements, weddings and pregnancies (not necessarily in that order) that are overpopulating your social media feeds but it will also leave you with a newfound knowledge that you can apply to your life.
Becky’s second unexpected baby sure isn’t telling you about the latest trends in your industry, I can tell you that much.
Now that we have that sorted out we can move onto the good stuff: The Newsletters!
1. The Muse
The Muse can help you land your dream job while also offering a helpful array of professional advice to gather in your brain next to your memorized exam study guide.
2. Refinery29
While aimed towards a female demographic, this newsletter claims to, “keep the boring away” and if something has the ability to do that then I say it’s worth a shot. Expect lifestyle, entertainment, style and more.
3. Vox
Offers a daily digest of current events , news and other relevant content that is hand-picked and delivered straight to your inbox.
4. theSkimm
Send news to your inbox in the AM. Their angle is that they provide a quick, easy and to-the-point summary of the news which allows those with a little less “productive-procrastination” time to consume news in a shorter timespan.
5. Buffer
Is a system you can use to handle your social media posts, namely by scheduling them ahead of time. But besides that, Buffer currently offers two newsletters: Open and Social. These focus on productivity and social media respectively.
6. Brain Pickings
Brain Pickings is a weekly newsletter that comes out on Sundays that features content throughout the week that the creators over at Brain Pickings have deemed to be unmissable as they refer to it on their site.
These are only a few of the thousands of newsletters offered by folks all across the internet. They cater to every niche, every industry and every person by depositing applicable content straight to your email inbox. If you don’t find your right fit from these six suggestions than I encourage you to do a bit of research to locate a newsletter that will bring you useful, relevant information that you can apply not only to your personal life but your professional life as well.
