It is the age of superheroes if you couldn't tell already from most of the box office statistics. It's also the age of politics and all-together rage in the United States. So, leave it to Fox News to get offended when Diana Prince, aka Wonder Woman, isn't American enough in her new self-titled origin movie that just released on Friday, June 2.
The news outlet decided to comment on the new changes done to the heroine, comparing to Lynda Carter's Wonder Woman from the 1975 series she first appeared on, live-action. Wonder Woman, just as scantily clad, was dressed in a very patriotic, American get-up.
In 2017, Wonder Woman got a makeover. She isn't covered in stars and stripes anymore. She's now dressed in bronze-like armor with muted colors of red and blue - the style appropriately tying in her origin story as an Amazonian woman. However, Fox News complains that, of course, the artists wrongly are trying to "globalize" Wonder Woman and her style.
News flash to those upset over the new Wonder Woman, she's a good ol' girl next door. She's the daughter of the Queen of the Amazons, who lived in the hidden paradise Themyscira with the rest of the Amazons and trained with them.
In other words: she is not American.
The new stylists of Wonder Woman and DC respect that she is a patriotic figure of America, but her story doesn't just revolve around the Unites States. A quick google search or trip to a comic book store could easily educate anyone on the origin of the most popular heroine created.
In the end, she is a comic book character that was popular enough to get her own series, movie and more. It isn't the end of American patriotism. She's an Amazonian princess, for goodness sake. Fox News, focus on something else than what a woman is wearing. Wonder Woman's new outfit isn't the end of the United States - the government of today is. Use movies to escape from reality, not to make a fuss about something simple.
