Realistic Resolutions I Should Actually Try and Keep This Year
Like many Americans, I cannot keep a New Year’s Resolution. Every year is the same mantra: This year will be the year I get in shape or this year I will be Monica Geller level organized. Without fail, however, at 11:59 pm on New Year’s Eve I keep thinking maybe I could have done without chicken McNuggets every week or that maybe I should have made that budget sheet so that I did not ride the roller coaster of emotion that was my bank account. But after reading a Forbes article, I learned the missing piece of my resolution equation was that I bit off more than I can chew. So this year I decided to try something new: make a list of realistic resolutions that I can actually keep for the whole year and not just until January 21st. So here are some resolutions to keep my life and my bank account happy:
- Do not take Uber rides if you can walk there in 15 min
- Try and meet up with people when you say “let’s meet up soon”
- Do laundry on time so that you aren’t sniffing clothes off the floor and wondering if they're clean or not
- Meditate for 15 min a day for mental peace
- Actually use the sneakers for what they are meant for (going to the gym) and not just the aesthetic
- Stop avoiding your bank balance and actually look at it -- it’s not going away so you might as well check
- Try not to overthink text messages. Just because they do not text you back in all caps does not mean they are mad at you.
- Accept the fact that coffee is not a food group
- M O I S T U R I Z E
- Learn a vocab word every now and then so that you can limit the usage of the words “lit” and “dope” in everyday conversations
- Vow to think before you speak
- Limit watching trash reality tv so you can have that extra hour of sleep
- Raise your hand more in class
- Be as confident in real life as you are on social media
- Call your mom and dad more
