1. Smile every chance you get.

I know you’ve heard it said a million times before, but it’s true that a smile goes a long way. Sending a simple smile someone’s way can make them feel loved and appreciated. Not only does smiling benefit others, but it also improves your own health. It’s true that the more you smile, the better you feel. You should definitely give it a try sometime.

2. Do a selfless act.

Or multiple selfless acts. This is also a prime example of benefitting others in addition to yourself. Make it goal to make a difference in other people’s lives, and I promise that you’ll feel the reward when you get to see the impact you’ve made. There’s truly no other more rewarding form of payment.

3. Find a passion.

Sometimes we get so caught up in the necessities of life that we lose sight of our true passions. I’m not encouraging you to walk away from your responsibilities, but make sure to carve out time for yourself to discover things in this life that bring you pure joy. Whether it’s playing an instrument, baking desserts, learning a language, etc., cherish the things in life that bring you happiness.

4. Live outside the screen.

I’m more guilty than the next person of hiding behind my phone. However, keeping a streak alive or seeing how much fun that girl is having on vacation is not truly validating for yourself. Instead of sitting in envy of how much “fun” other people are having, put the screen down and create your own experiences. Live in the moment, and don’t become so preoccupied with capturing the moment that you forget to genuinely enjoy it.

5. Explore a new scene.

Yes, it would be nice if we all had enough money to travel around the world, venturing into new environments. But, this isn’t the case for most us. However, you can explore newfound places within your own perimeters if you simply make it your mission. Even if it’s a place you’ve crossed paths with countless times, you’d be surprised what new things you can discover that you’ve previously overlooked.

6. Appreciate nature.

Nature can be a truly transcendent component of life. From a sunset to a rainstorm, to the intricacy of a simple flower, nature offers a wide variety of characteristics that are awe-inspiring and breathtaking when we take a step back and appreciate them.

7. Develop your perspective.

Rather than dwelling on your narrowed viewpoint of life, open up your mind to listen to others’ viewpoints and quit living such a close-minded life. You’ll find that by exploring other people’s perspectives, you will develop a much broader, more knowledgeable personal outlook on life.

8. Pray more.

The power of prayer is so incredibly real. Staying in constant prayer is honestly the most comforting yet empowering thing that you can do. Adhering to this resolution can truly alter your entire perspective on life for the better.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
