1. Learn better stress coping mechanisms
Meditate, take a walk, go out with friends; any of these would be better options than binge drinking, crying for hours, or if you're like me, sleeping more than what has to be considered healthy.
Overall, just treat yourself better this year.
2. Worry less
Part of coping with stress involves learning to stop being a worrier. If you are doing the best you know how, then things will fall into place and essentially worrying will just drive you even crazier.
3. ... And try to cry less
As college students, we can expect to start drowning in homework as soon the semester begins, then drowning in our own tears inevitably follows.
It's okay to cry, believe me we all need a good cry every now and then, but personally, I am going to try to be a bit stronger than I have been in past semesters.
4. Don't be so hard on yourself; you're doing great sweetie.
So what you didn't make all A's this semester? Maybe your GPA dropped some, but guess what? Nobody's perfect, and trying your best and proactively chasing after your dreams is all that matters at the end of the day.
5. Make more memories
I am guilty of choosing to stay in and binge-watch The Office or Gossip Girl rather than go out and socialize.
When we look back at our college memories, there should be more to look back on than just going to class and hiding away in our bedroom. Let's try to have fun while we're still young, even if we don't always feel like it.
6. Take charge of your health in every aspect
Most people focus their new years' resolution on physical health, but mental and emotional health is just as important.
If you find yourself depressed, overly anxious, or moody in general, do something about it before it takes over and progressively gets worse, even if it means going to see a doctor for help.
So make a resolution to step out of your comfort zone and seek help for your benefit.
7. Give 100% in everything you do this year, even your grades.
This one can be hard, especially when college life can make us feel drained a lot of the time. This year should be spent bettering ourselves, and that includes improving our work ethic.
Just keep in mind that time management and just doing a little bit at a time versus putting everything off until the last minute makes all the difference in the world.
Never forget that you are an incredible human who is capable of doing amazing in everything you do.
8. Be more productive
This is another way to help create a better work ethic.
I am definitely one to only do what's necessary during any off time that I can get and never try to get ahead of things. If I am not in class, working, or studying all I want to do is lay around and chill out.
This can include putting off homework, extracurricular responsibilities, studying, or even cleaning tasks to keep everything in order.
This year needs to be the year of basically getting our life together if not already.
9. Get that internship
Most people will tell you not to wait until senior year to try and get an internship, it's not always easy to find one and if you don't have experience in your desired working field, it can be that much harder to find a job.
Be ambitious and get as many internships throughout college as you can and definitely don't give up on the search if you ever feel discouraged.
Make this year be the year that you make yourself into an excellent candidate for the dream job you hope to obtain one day.
10. Be an overall more positive person
I've always been told that if you stop complaining all together that your life will just naturally start to get better and you will genuinely be a happier person.
Out of all the resolutions that you make for yourself, if you make any, being more positive will not only create a better atmosphere for yourself but for those around you.
Putting all negativity out of your life will guarantee that you will have a great year in 2018.
