Ringing in the new year always comes with some mixed feelings of nostalgia over the year past and excitement about what is to come. Along with that excitement comes a sense of empowerment to make the coming year a year of change and of bettering oneself. Thus is born the new year's resolution. This sense of empowerment and desire for change, however, lasts for about a week after January 1st, as do the resolutions made at that time. In order to keep your resolutions from dying only a week old, strive to make resolutions that you will always feel motivated to keep. The following are a few examples of some resolutions that are not only relatively easy to keep, but will make you undoubtedly happier overall.
1. Learn how to do that one thing that you can never seem to find time for.
Use that time that you'd be binge watching Netflix to learn that new skill.
2. Remind yourself of the things you are glad you don't have to live without.
3. Make an effort to pet more dogs.
You'll BOTH be happier for it.
4. Give yourself the love you deserve.
Sometimes all that you need is a little reminder that there's only one you, and that makes you pretty dang special.
5. Eat a doughnut.
Or a cookie. Or those nachos that you love. Most importantly, let yourself enjoy every last crumb without regret.
6. Check yourself out every now and again.
Remember those things that you love about yourself, because you are hot. Don't you forget it.
7. Brush it off.
Life is too short to take things so seriously. Make this year about rolling with the punches.
8. Give each day a theme.
When you choose something to focus on every day, you will learn to take charge of how you are living.
8. Be a little geeky.
Embrace what you love, and never look back. You may even discover that some of your friends share the same interests.
9. Spend more time with yourself.
If you can face yourself, you're ready to face the world.
10. Make a Pinterest board of things you want to do, but know you will never get around to actually doing.
Just because you will never do it doesn't mean that it isn't a good idea! You never know when this stuff will come in handy.
11. Make nap time a priority.
There's a reason afternoon siestas exist.
