“What is your New Year's Resolution?” This is the official question asked every time at the end of the year. Without fail, I constantly heard this question asked this year and I internally cringed every time. Don’t get me wrong, the new year is magical and worthy of celebration, but so is each and every moment that we are alive.
Don’t worry, if you have a new year’s resolution we can still be friends. We have all been taught that this is the time of year when we have the power to change our old ways.
However, in reality, every moment is a new one and with every second we have the ability to create change. We are in control of our lives, every second of the year. I just wish more people grasped this concept year round instead of on December 31st. I feel as though the overdramatizing of new year’s eve disables us into realizing how much control we really have over our own lives. Without a sense of control, we become accustomed to our routine and habits, failing to appreciate what we have to be grateful for, including the very fact that we are breathing. In this way, it is extremely easy to lose consciousness of how precious life really is.
I technically don’t have a new year's resolution, but I do support the idea of self-improvement and my goal for the rest of today, and the following days to come is to keep improving and trying in my own way, to make this world a better place. But it’s not because it’s a new year. It’s because I want to make the most out of however much time I have on this planet.
