My New Years Resolution For 2017

As 2016 comes to a close, many people will be sitting at home thinking of a New Years resolution to have to. Many people come up with resolutions like eating healthy, losing weight, being more active or just simply bettering themselves as people. I was recently asked what my New Years resolution was and to be honest, I’ve never had one. Not because I thought I was perfect or didn't need to improve on any bad habits of mine, but it was just something I never took the time to think about. So for 2017 I am going to make a New Years revolution but more than one. Here are my 5 New Years Resolutions for 2017.

1. Less Procrastination

As many of us students can all relate to, it’s procrastinating. It’s hard not to procrastinate because that's just human nature. Putting stuff off is what seems like the easiest path, but obviously in the end, it never turns out the way we hope. So for 2017, I’m going to procrastinate less and get stuff done.

2. Appreciate my youth

I’m thankful for everything I have in life, but I think one thing I forget to appreciate is my youth. Many people I talk to who are much older and have kids, would give anything to go back to being my age. Many people would love to go back to the time when they had less to worry about like an income or providing for a family because times are hard but they never used to be. In 2017, I’ll appreciate my youth more and live it up because this years are the best years of my life and once they’re gone, they’re gone.

3. Try new things

For most of my childhood I had a busy schedule. I was always out playing hockey and I never really took the time to try new things because I was so invested in the sport that I love. Now that I’m no longer playing, I’m going to take advantage of this time that I have and try new things.

4. Have fun

High school was a very serious time in my life and there were times I almost forgot to have fun. I was so caught up in making sure I did well in school, that I never made time to hangout with friends. I was either busy with school work, hockey, or exhausted from the week I had, that I slept. No longer will I let that happen. I going to go and have fun and enjoy it.

5. Better myself as a person

For many people, this is a resolution that is a go to. But I’m taking this one in a different way. I’m going to better myself by having stronger shoulders. Not letting a bad grade or a bad day control my happiness. And most importantly, I’m going to better my self by loving my self for who I am and what I offer to the world.

The start of a New Year is always a great thing. It’s like having a clean slate to completely change who you are for the better.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Syllabus Week As Told By Kourtney Kardashian

Feeling Lost During Syllabus Week? You're Not Alone!

Kourtney Kardashian

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
