My "New Year Resolution"

A look at a different kind of resolution.

My "New Year Resolution"

Dear 2017,

I think that resolutions are bullshit. People, for some reason, decide that just because it's the new year they are all of a sudden going to work our or eat healthy. All resolutions are the same and they all carry the same weight. Which is why they are complete and utter bullshit. So why am I making a resolution? Why be a hypocrite and proclaim the one thing that I am against? It's because my resolution is different.

I don't want to work our or go on a diet. Hell my resolution isn't even to work my ass off and make a ton of money. You know what I want this new year to hold? The immensity of the impossible. If you don't know what I mean then just close your eyes for a second and imagine you're 17 again. Can you remember that feeling? It was only two years ago for me but I can remember it pretty well.

When we were 17 we had the entire world at our fingertips. You could get any job, go to any school, and get any girl you wanted. There was power in the impossible and it felt like we could do anything as long as we believed in it. That's a feeling that I can feel myself losing as I get older; my creativity, imagination, and belief that anything is possible begins to dwindle.

You might think I'm a cynic or that I'm one of those people who bash on people who have small resolutions. I'm not one of those people, I just believe that something greater can be accomplished in the new year.

People I've known since I was a kid are having kids and getting married. My world is changing and there are moments when you look back and realize that you aren't that kid with no responsibilities. There are more important things than getting your driver's license or asking someone to prom.

One day we're all 17 and the possibilities seem endless, and the next second you're thirty and you start to question what happened to the things that made you... you.

My resolution is to begin believing that I can do anything, travel anywhere, see anyone. To truly believe in the immensity of the impossible and reach out to that 17 year old kid and let him know that I haven't given up on our dreams. Our futures are more than just having careers, kids, and planting that white picket fence. If those are your dreams and aspirations then shoot for the stars, I'm not here to stand in your way.

But don't lose that drive to take on the world. Strive for greatness and never lost hope that you can be greater, love more, see more, and most importantly... look yourself in the mirror and know you've tasted life's greatest pleasures.

At the end of the day all of our resolutions should be to see the impossible and reach for it. One day you might just caught your shooting star.

Sincerely,

A guy who's ready for the impossible

We don't buy into these... just like how we don't buy our friends.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
