Its a new year; a new you. This is waht we all always tell ourselves once the ball drops and the fireworks stop going off. "This is my year, this is a new me," and then two weeks later, we give up. We make and set these huge goals, elaborate even, and once things get too tough to handle, we revert back to our old ways. Don't get me wrong, healthy change is great, but maybe we all need to approach it a different way.
For the past few weeks I was considering what I was going to set as this years resolution. I too made the statements that this is it, I am going to stick with it. Well, I never even set a resolution. I already knew ahead of time that I wouldn't stick to it. But I did have an alternative idea and the more I have been thinking about it, the more it makes sense to me.
I want to be better. It's as simple as that. Better than what? Better than I was a year ago. Better than I was a month ago, or a week ago, or even just a day ago. I am going to strive to be better. That small word holds so much to it. I will be better at time management, my eating habits, my sleep schedule, etc. etc. Yes, is it packing a lot of things into one word, it is. But it gets rid of the stress of the huge goals like losing weight, finishing big projects, or whatever else you all come up with. Now all you are focusing on is the small changes, anything that you do that makes you feel better.
As your days turn into weeks and then months and so on, these small changes that you do every day will start growing into big changes, all in the goal of bettering yourself. So, I challenge you all to stop setting huge goals and just think about becoming better. And this could be vastly different from person to person. What we all really need to do is take a step back and focus on what we can do for ourselves, by ourselves, to better ourselves. I want to be better, and I hope you do too.
