I have made New Year's Resolutions year after year and by March I completely forgot about them or didn’t follow up with the initial plan. I’m not saying that everyone is the same and that resolutions should be diminished. However, I feel that instead of trying to change yourself (new year, new me) at the beginning of a new year, why not evaluate yourself during the year. It is so easy to slip up on New Year’s resolutions especially if they are each of the following
“I am going to go to the gym more”,
“No more junk food for me.”
Those resolutions seem to always break before the year ends. Chances are by the end of the year, your goals and view of life have altered from the beginning of the year. What you wanted to change about yourself in January may be different from what you want to change in May.
It is absolutely important to look after and take care of yourself. Whether it’s your personal relationships, body image or your mental health. What I have always wondered is why do we have to procrastinate and wait until it’s the last day of a year to think about these changes. Someone could have lost those 5 pounds they desperately wanted to 2 months ago instead of waiting until January 1st to do so. A quote that I saw on Tumblr one day that stuck with me was, “ Every day you wait is another day that you won’t get back.” I’m sure that many people realize that time flies by and as my family says “time waits for no man,” so why wait. Instead of making just New Year’s resolutions why not make daily, weekly and monthly resolutions. There’s honestly no need to wait one year to do something you could’ve finished in a week.
