The new year is right at our fingertips and what better way to ensure a fantastic 2017 than to follow some age old traditions? This week I decided to share some of the crazy traditions that are practiced by my family every January 1st. If you're in need of any of these things, then why not try one of these practices this year? Who knows? Some of them might just work...

1. Money

A few extra bills are never a bad idea. If you're looking to make extra cash this new year, try gathering up all the loose change in your house and put it in a bowl of rice. Leave the money in the bowl for the rest of they year, and cash is sure to flow your way.

2. Travel

If you're hoping to travel more this year, then gather up all the suitcases and leave them by the door. The moment that clock strikes twelve, take as many as you can and run out the door! Although it sounds strange, this tradition is sure to help you in your journey to somewhere new.

3. Wellness

Part of the new year is cleansing yourself of all the bad vibes from the last year. If you want to start off the new year with a clean slate, all you have to do is follow this simple practice. When the clock strikes midnight, take a broom and literally "sweep" all the bad memories from the year previous out the door.

These are just some of the classic, albeit a little strange, traditions that are followed by my family and many others. Although these practices may not grant you 100 percent accuracy, they are a fun, purifying way to start the new year!

Happy New Year!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
