A New Year's Tip

A major way your New Year's resolution can make it past February

I think a lot of you can relate to the idea of not sticking to your New Year's resolution five weeks into the new year. Learn to play guitar; take more pictures; fly a commercial jet; whatever it may be for you, it almost never stays in your life throughout the entire year.

In my opinion, the one thing that just makes sense to help maintain the keeping of a resolution is to do it with a partner or a buddy. When you want to get up early you rely on your alarm or roommate or mother to get you up. When going to the gym to work out or attempting to eat healthier, a partner would help make the experience that much more enjoyable.

If you need access to a buddy, a simple Facebook post to advertise your position opening doesn’t hurt. I just happen to be lucky enough to have an amazing boyfriend who is more than willing to join me in my/our resolution. Don’t have a significant other? THAT’S OKAY. Just because I am suggesting to get a partner does not mean you need a boyfriend or a girlfriend. That’s not what this article is about. Get a buddy. That’s what this is about.

A common resolution is to work out more, and working out is so much more easy with a partner to motivate you! Want to eat more healthy foods? Get a buddy to go to lunch with and recommend new places to try with you. Alone time is fun, but there are many activities that are so much fun with a friend.

Spend some time with another human being and change yourself for the better. That’s the point of a resolution! Don’t be that person who says “new year, new me,” change your hair color and not make any real positive change to your life. If you really feel you should eat healthier, or learn a new skill for your New Year’s resolution-go for it! It’s what we do about how we feel that defines us as a person. Not your Instagram photo that captures one second out of an entire year.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
